To me, I didn't see hardly ANY shots land on em in that video, pre-Tarver. The ones that did weren't the most punishing blows either... Kinda weak.
One more thing to blame on having too many belts. If there was just one belt per division, rrj would not have gone up to heavy. He thought he could beat the weak belt holder Ruiz and he was correct. But in doing so lost whatever career he could have had left.
If there was only 1 belt he would have to fight the true champ in DM!Instead Roy collected stolen belts and paraded around with them as if he was the GOAT.
i dont know why he didnt stay at heavy , as i think Lewis maybe only had a year or two left in the ring at that point , and he could have worked his way through a couple other B level fighters , or he could have fitted very easily into the cruiserweight mix.
This chin debate IMO is just plain retarted. Go watch the John Ruiz fight although Jones was rarely hit he was hit clean with right hands straight down the pipe 4-5 times in that fight and Jones barley flinched. These brutal knockout loses have came in his mid to late 30s and now early 40s and this is after draining himself to lose 20 ibs of muscle if you think that doesnt have any effect on a man your nuts. Its clear watching every RJJ fight now that he has lost his legs so if he can lose his legs why cant he lose punch resistance ? I dont recall seeing this violent KO loses in his prime years. Glass jaws are like Amir Khan who is a wonderful fighter but hes been KTFO in his prime, Jorge Lineares also among others.
I seem to recall him being embarrassed, getting up with steady legs, smiling, and then putting a beat down on DeValle after that....Badly Hurt, dont make me ROFL.
Internet myth: utter, utter bull****. Hmm, funny how the Lou del Valle fight does not feature in this 'proof' video. If del Valle had half of Jones's skill and confidence he could have got a TKO out of Jones during that fight after knocking him to the floor. The argument for years was Jones was weight drained for his knockout losses: more bull****. He was knocked out by Tarver over a year after fighting Ruiz, a year, and by Johnson another 4 months later. Was he weight drained then too? No he wasn't. Was he weight drained for the Danny Green fight. No, he wasn't. So now the apologists want to change their argument: his chin failed after fighting at heavyweight - just the process itself of fighting at Heavy against Ruiz had a catastrophic effect on this chin? Come on, get real, this is the truth: Jones never had a good chin, his defence in his prime was heavyily dependent on his reactions to get out the way of punches, so when he finaly did get hit square by a flull bloodied shots he gets knocked out. I like Roy, I really do, but his fans need to wake up and stop peddling this stupid ****ing 'weight drained' theory.
