    Any views on this fight?

Armstrong KO9, in my opinion. I don't think Mayweather is physically or mentally strong enough to win the type of fight that Armstrong brings to him. Just too relentless and tough, in my eyes. Armstrong was a damn good fighter - second to Robinson in my eyes - and would be too much for Floyd.

"Defence wins championships"? Not in this fight: Armstrong by stoppage.

hmmm, who's the best mover armstrong ever fought? and at what weight?

i think at 135 it's a tight, tight contest with both guys at or near their peak

at 147 armstrong was small, to be honest, so he wouldn't be as physically imposing. his physicality and strength was a huge part of his game. i know the classic guys will tear me up for this but despite the number of defenses i just see armstrong struggling at welter against mayweather. below that he wins but...

    135-armstrong by close decision
    147-floyd by close decision

Stop Floyd in 9? You talk as if Armstrong was some kind of power-punching beast. That he was not. Now I'm not gonna pretend like I'm an Armstrong expert, but I think anybody who knows anything about boxing can agree that two tactical fighters, neither of them are big punchers, the fight will likely goto the cards...

And I know the oldies on this forum will give me grief for saying this.. but.. the competition back then couldn't have been as good as it is now. Boxing was still in its infant stage, so I think it'd be a lot tougher to reign on the division today just by sheer numbers.. there are so many more quality opponents to fight today... I have no clue how good Armstrong would be if he fought today's fighters.. I'm of the belief that the athletes today are bigger, stronger, faster, and more athletic.

Armstrong was a heavy puncher though - not a KO artist but he did break people down. A tremendous body puncher, which is what I think would do the damage. Mayweather would not be able to keep Armstrong off him, despite having good footwork.

be careful underestimating armstrongs power. on the inside he generated frightening leverage and barney ross was cut up and destroyed...only his heart saw him to the final bell. armstrong, when he hit you, could do plenty of damage

judging from the armstrong clips ive seen. floyd by shut out. armstrong guard is down to his stomach. lack of defence. wide wide stance.
are there many clips of him or does he mainly fight like he is in a phone booth?

From 1937 to 1940 Armstrong went 59-1-1 with 51 knockouts. He won the featherweight title, the lightweight title and the welterweight title in this time. Defended the lightweigh title once and the welterweight tile 18 times (alltogether he had 19 defences of thw welterweight crown, a record that stands until today).
He beat ring ranked contenders 75 times throughout his career including 10 HoFers in 13 fights (with possibly a few added in the future).
Armstrong is one of the few fighters with with more than 100 knockouts (that's three times the fights Mayweaher had btw.).

Add to that Mayweather's habbit of going into a "very defensive pot shot mode" when he his pressured. Add to that that PBF never faced somebody with a combination of workrate, power, angles, pressure, durability, defense and stamina that Armstrong brings to he able and I just can't see how Mayweather lasts 12 not even talking about 15. Even if he just fights to survive he won't last. Armstrong will be in his face from the furst second of the fight unil the las, never taking a step back always coming forward and throwing leather.
Armsrong TKO9 Mayweather is very gentle for PBF I think. I don't think he would last more than 6.

to be fair, that was his preferred style. all the clips i've seen are him bobbing and weaving into range and outworking the guy. but he's probably the best inside fighter of all time and if he can find the range as castillo did, he'd outwork and break down floyd

i honestly feel at 147 he could win a decision; though thinking about it his shoulder roll defense wouldn't be as effective as an all angles puncher like armstrong, who reveled in working the body

Armstrong had to drink water to reach the minimum weight to be allowed to fight at welterweight for some of his title defences of the welterweight championship. Often weighing in under the lightweight limit. But he still beat some HoF WW and even atgs at this weight despite fighting as an lightweight. Armstrong made weight a none issue.

Armstrong was great because he fought many different styles but he made them fight his fight. He was the greatest ever and enforcing a high pressure style and Mayweather would not be able to get away. He, like every other prime-Armstrong opponent, would be forced into a fight.

    A fight Mayweather cannot win.

i agree but that's sort of my point. he was quite small for a welter and i doubt he'd be able to physically bully mayweather enough to get inside and do his magic at that weight. below, sure. but at 147 he's be potshotted for large portions of the fight. when he got inside he could do some work but he was too small too really make the most of it

Armstrong wins in the worst night of Mayweather's life. Sorry. Mayweather would be forced to break both hands on Homicide Hank and then he'd be brutalized.
