Here it depends on what's in season (American football, basketball, hockey, baseball...never fighting, which is year-round).
Im currently training to have my first MMA bout and have become a huge follower of the sport but feel there is still a place for both at the top of the sporting tree. As a product MMA(mostly the UFC organisation) have nailed things down nicely and are extremely profitable.
Mate aint 100%sure..i actually want to take things very serious so am not going to jump in2 it until im fully prepared..To be honest i could jump in now against some dud and probably win but im focusing on cutting down to low 80s high 70kgs first..Im currently 86kgs.Im finding the cut hard as i dont exactly have much fat on me..
Hey mate..Unlike your bunnies we as per usual fail to purchase genuine gamebreakers. The clubs bean counters wouldnt know talent if it bit them on the ass..Im a very frustrated supporter.. We need a top notch established half or five-eight...Wade graham aint the answer and ex manly and ex cowboy reject travis burns aint the answer either. Dont get me wrong Burns is a real goer but why purchase him??..Also Daine Laurie??... Tim sheens is a extremely good judge of talent so why would he see fit to let Laurie go if he was the realdeal?? Because unlike penrith Sheens and myself are aware of his handling errors and constant bad reads in defence... Man i can rant on all night about this.haha.. But hey the bunnies are going to have a formiddable pack in 2010..
Yeah, I think I have genuine reason to be pretty optimistic about 2010. It all started in 2006 when steps were made to build the right team off the field too. It was hard to imagine back then that up and coming stars would want to go to a club like Souths. I'm expecting Sandow to have a better year as well. He was restricted whilst under Taylor, he took away his creative freedom which was by far his best asset. Imo it seemed like Taylor was trying to structure him too much when his natural game is more of a flamboyant one. John Lang was responsible for Preston Campbell coming of age, and he was there to resurrect him after Chris Anderson ****ed him up. Campbell and Sandow are kinda similar players too. I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the pennies. Their grand final win over the Roosters is probably the best grand final I've seen aside from Newcastle beating Manly in 97.
Agree with everything u posted.. Funny my oldman and i were watching newy vs manly 97 on foxsports lastweek.Classic matches.. They dont play footy like that anymore.Totally edge of your seat end to end action..I just couldnt get over how tough Toovey was that game. The stomp he copped from Mad dog was brutal..
Yeah. Although I hate Manly with a passion, Toovey was always the more likable guy in that team, and he was as tough as nails as well. He always seemed to pick up a few knocks to the head as well. That grand final was epic. Prior to that I think Manly had won their last 12 or so against Newcastle and they just seemed to have an aura of invincibility about them.
firstly i would like to say im a huge boxing fan and mma fan ,the problem with boxing is obviously the many sanctions that exist mean politics and far too many weight classes are ruining the sport ,some people say that there are other mma companies but the fact remains that the u.f.c has 90% of the market so the competittion barely exists .the u.f.c is gaining in popularity because every card has super competitive fights where as boxing the focus is on the main fight meaning the undercards are used to inflate the records of up and coming fighters not pit good fighters against good fighters.in boxing generally the better fighter is determined after just a few rounds so the result is most likely determined so it loses appeal unless its a very competitive match up.in mma the ways to win are almost endless so you dont really know who is going to win as it could change any moment.i think mma appeals to the broader market as you dont need to know the technicalities to see who is winning.[ e.g alot of people think that throwing punches means you are scoring so dont understand defence work rate or power punches involved in boxing].to finish i will always follow both sports but i can see why the u.f.c is booming.always good fights always good undercards and i really believe the work they put into previewing the fighters prior to the fight makes it feel very personal. just my thoughts
I follow both MMA and boxing and agree with most of what you say. It is wrong to say that MMA fights are "always" good. I think they have their share of boring stuff as well. Did you enjoy the Kimbo Slice/Houston Alexander thing? I mean, sure they both had respect for each others punches but a full fight of one guy circling with the other having no abilty to trap him, was pretty bad. I think you are right about the public finding MMA easier to follow. A bit like 20/20 cricket. Cricket for people who hate cricket. I do think that as MMA and UFC gets bigger and bigger, more people will come to the honey pot and it will start to have exactly the same problems as boxing. ie. Fighters being protected from losses once they become cash cows, Corrupt organisation, more politices, more classes etc etc
i agree the kimbo houston fight was boring but on paper it looked like it could be an amazing match up.i just didnt think alexander would be scared.p.s if everyone thinks kimbo needs to work on his ground game they are right but if he wants to fight stand up my god he needs to learn how to check leg kicks .imagine if shogun or vera gets hold of him
True. I'm just not sure that Kimbo's got it. I even checked his "internet sensation" street fights and I just can't see it. Obviously a powerful guy but that is not enough now. Biggest disappointment of that night was the Jon Jones disqualification. First time I've seen a full fight of his. Couldn't believe his skills and power. Ol Roy Nelson was good. I love seeing those fat, nonathletic looking guys win. Once you get past the weight and just watch him, he moves really well and is pretty smart I think. Good at avoiding takedowns and any trouble and can really deal it out. Anyway, I'll get booted to the MMA forum if I keep this up.
jones is a freak reminds me of anderson silva.haha its funny you like big country cause i do too hes very well rounded with unbelievable cardio for a fat dude .how can he stay so fat with that sort of training regime ???????????????????????????????????????????
