Hopkins beat fear into him and took away his confidence. Dont forget pavlik thought he was goin to KO b-hop. He thought wrong, really wrong.
people can throw technicalities into it, but when i say shot i clearly don't mean on the verge of retiring, i mean damaged goods. the pavlik that walked in the ring against b-hop was the best MW around, he'd shown heart and power plus shown great stamina. the pavlik that walked out, well he was a 1dimensional fighter with no lateral movement. his confidence had been damaged and his invincibility shattered. i do not think he will win another big fight. that is what i mean by shot. seems most agree with me. to all the pavlik fans, which big name fighter do you see him beating now? and which big name fighters did you see him beating before b-hop. that is the difference. he walked in the ring a man, and came out the ring a boy. fact.
maybe he didn't but at the time of the fight he'd broke into p4p top ten an was considered a quality fighter.
No, he just has a limited back of tricks. He can beat 99% of the world with solid offensive fundamentals and decent defense, all with huge KO power of course, but Hopkins showed that he is a touch limited when his main method of attack is stopped.
99% hmmm maybe he would beat every B level MW out there. i'd love him to test his waters against sturm however. that'd gauge how good he is
i seriously doubt it mate. maybe he will. lets have it right, the guy is good to watch, he is there to be hit, and he hits back hard.. i see two possibilities here. 1) he was as good as they say, since b-hop he's now average = shot 2) he was never that good = over rated. yes there is option 3 3) had a bad day against b-hop, dominates other MW's for years = great. but i seriously doubt option 3
NO it is not, that is BULL**** and you know it. Most posters on this board think AA's BEST opponent is Jermain Taylor and Miranda. Only AA haters would think that. His best opponent to date was beating Kingsley Ikeke in his 19th PROFESSIONAL fight for the Interim IBF championship. I know we all have opinions about winning vacant titles but that is besides the point. Howard Eastman is a hell of an opponent for your 17th professional fight and I think that is his 2nd best opponent(Howard Eastman gave Bernard Hopkins all he could handle). His third best opponent is in my opinion is Khoren Gevor, who is had been consistently ranked in the top 5 of MW division for some time now. Jermain Taylor would be his 4th best opponent(obviously taylor is the biggest name but is not the same fighter he was) and then you have Miranda.
Very good post. His offense seems, to me at least, to have fallen into a pattern of jab, right hand. jab, jab, right hand, left hook to the body. He cant be faulted for the type of fight Rubio fought as it was very negative, but Pavlik is very 1 dimensional, ive thought this since i saw the Taylor fight. Pavliks main assets are his size at 160, his strength and his power, its not necessarily down to he skii set, he wears opponents down. Which at 160 is all very well but i think once he steps up out of the middleweight division he may be found wanting a little.
I can agree with that hermit and the Simon fight was the one fight I have never seen AA so unmotivated and unwilling.
I don't think he's shot, let the guy have his tune up and then we'll see how he goes. But be serious, Calzaghe would have Lacyed him.
