Kurt Warner bagged tampons at a Pic N' Save and is now a HOF QB.

    Hollywood happens EVERY DAY.

They are too old to start their boxing career now. By the time they are ready for the big league, they are already in their 30's and already in the decline.

Hope they got plenty of amateur experience, this isnt the MMA where you only learn the sport for 2 years and become heavyweight champion.

It's going to take a lot of money and patience with these guys but i'm sure with the right trainers they can move up in the ranks accordingly.

I like the idea and it doesn't matter if the guys have much amateur experience at all ... they can learn the basics on the job, but with this scenario - its going to take a few years to get them to the right level. Hell look at Kevin Johnson, he seems to be well off and he lacked the killer instinct to go after Klitschko ... but he faired better than Peter, Gonzalez, and Arreola becoming the second man to ever go the distance with Vitali.

I'm sure that it would be great to get some new blood - but it's sad to say that with these guys they may only get on chance if any to get a championship fight.

Mark Gastineaux exfootball player, Ty Fields exbasketball player, Michael Grant exhoopster, Brian Minto exfootballer

Sanders and Jackson aren't good examples of multisport competitors because I believe they had played baseball throughout their scholastic days and they had been 2 sport jocks all along.

    Nikolai Valuev ex shotputter...go figure.

I think the odds are stacked against the late-coming frustrated jocks who are looking to continue competing, they'd have a better chance if they could go back in time when the field of competition wasn't so big and all they'd have to do is fight some heroin addict, fat South African etc.

All it takes is a guy who can punch explosively hard and take a hell of a punch and he's got a chance.

Why the hate for these guys?

I mean seriously, ****ing keyboard warriors:-(

Rahman made some noise and didn't start until later in life. Will these dudes become HW champion of the world, probably not but who the **** cares if they don't.

At this point, I'm not turning down any new US Heavyweight talent no matter how remote the odds. Best of luck to the lot of 'em. :!:

I don't get the hate for these guys. Don't we want our athletes to want to become boxers? You can't blame the guys for trying. If you read the article, you'll see that these guys were never exposed to the sport until now and have fallen in love with it. I don't see why we would want them to fail. If any of them have success, maybe it would inspire younger athletes to get into boxing.
