If Andre Ward fought Calzaghe's resume would he had been 46 - 0

Calzaghe would have knocked Ward out. Ward's headbutts are not fast enough to catch Calzaghe, Calzaghe is faster and more skilled that Ward will ever be. Bute will knock Ward out, but Ward will not fight him.

 

Right we know, because Calzaghe is white and Ward is black, Ward would have to cheat and still lose to the almighty Arayn.

well Ward can go beat the good names while peaking. When he becomes absolutely ready and primed then he can go take on Eubank and Bhop counterparts. It all depends on the timing and when he takes on high level opponents. As of now, he's very experienced on fighting styles (with the amateurs) but needs to be proven against boxer-punchers.

It is so common to underrate Calzaghe, as threads like this show. Yes, Ward could be 46:0 against Calzaghe's opposition IF he shows up as capable as he did against Kessler every time over more than a decade. And that's a huge IF and that's excatly Calzaghe's greatness: Unbelievable consistency.

The version of Frazier that beat Ali could have beaten everyone Holmes fought in his 20 title defenses. But Frazier didn't have it in him to be that version for very long. Some fighters like Holmes or Calzaghe don't have the one immortal win but something that might be even more difficult, consistency in a grueling, unforgiving sport. Chances are that over a career spanning more than a decade, Ward will have ups and downs and some lesser nights where he loses a fight against someone he was supposed to beat. It's normal, it happened to most ATG's, it juts never happened to Calzaghe. Ward's best performance or his level of ability don't say anything about his ability to deliver every time.

 

Yet its also the same thing that make what Joe did unimpressive to the masses. For most of his career all except 5 or 6 fights Joe was the one that was suppose to win, he fought guys that had no shot at beatting him even on an off night. Holmes on the other hand fought the best fighters there was for him to fight, Joe didnt. You can even compare the two. Brian Nielson was 46-0 at one point I believe does that make him a great fighter?? After all he did beat Holmes at about the same point that Calzaghe beat Jones. What Joe did was good, and should get him some credit, but what he did was far from great. Beatting Jones and Hopkins in 97-02 would have been impressive, but Joe wouldnt sack up. Fighting DM, or Ottke would have helped his case. Hell even fights with Woods or Froch would have helped. I think the fact that Joe bailed right at the time that fighters like Dawson, Ward, Bute and Froch came into thier own will hurt. Im not saying that Joe should have stayed around to fight those guys, but it would have helped his place in history.

 

He was 37 though, not like he retired young. Apart from Hopkins most fighters that stay past 36 struggle and stutter. We can rightly so be annoyed at his resume from his younger years but only an idiot can be annoyed at him not fighting people at this age.

Its pretty simple, look how many fighters have been champ for 10 straight years. Not many. And i don't see Ward being the next one.

Personally i think he'll lose his title in the super six, although the Kessler victory was impressive.

 

Are you serious? Ward is 0 years into his title reign. Calzaghe had over a decade to fight guys better than the ultimate quality of his resume.

I will predict that while AW might not go 46-0, when his career's done, he will have fought at least 5-10 more quality fighters in their prime than Calzaghe ever dared step in the ring with.
