First; I'd have a rule where all champions were imposed with stricter controls on there title defences, straight away you would see the best fights made and some up-and-comers getting shots. Stops the champion holding the belts hostage and fighting no marks.

Second; If a champion isnt active in 6 months he recinds his title with immediate effect no excuses (if the champ is injured he gets a shot against the new champ once he has healed and got back in top condition), stops fighters fading away and holding the title hostage and keeps things ticking over and keeps interest.

Third; Get rid this 'Super Champ' 'Interim' 'Champion in recess' bollocks. Your either Champ or your not, you can be known as NO1 contender but that is all.

Fourth; No promoter politics, a fighter should be part of a ranking system that is totally independent from all sources and is there only for the welfare of boxing, every fight should have to donate a small figure of cash to keep the organisation (who are non profit making) going. No bigwigs just fans of boxing who delegate for the best of boxing i.e mosley v mayweather to be made otherwise belts get confiscated.

Fifth; 5 judges and all have access to replays and computer scoring systems to aid them with their decision making.

Feel free to add as we go and thanks in advance, thoughts...

Very good list and agree with the points made. To add to it, I'd like to see a world governing body that oversees all boxing. Like FIFA for Football (Soccer), FIBA for Basketball etc.

    Other suggestions I have are:

    1 champ per weight.

    No catchweight fights.

Weight limits down to the original number (could keep the
Cruiserweight divison only because of the monster weight difference between Light Heavy and Heavy).

Your fourth point is very interesting - I was always under the assumption that the promoter works for the boxer and not the other way around. This point in question would sort this out I think.

To explain point 4, Amir Khan wanted to fight Prescott except Warren didnt want to make fight and he also wants to fight Hatton again Warren's past with Hatton will prevent this fight from happening unless Warren has full control, why should he have control he isnt fighting, he is simply arranging the fight that is all. Darchinyan wants to avenge loss against Donaire except Gary Shaw wont make fight cos Donaire left his promotional company. These little annoying bigwigs that are known as promoters will be irradicated as they wont be needed anymore, also fighters will get bigger purses and take more risks...

5 only works if the fight is being televised on a network .. if it's not then the judges don't have this benefit.

And that's the only thing that bothers me about all this instant replay talk. The only ones who get to benefit from it are fighters who happen to be fortunate enough to have their fight televised... if it's not, then the fighters are **** out of luck and that just doesn't seem fair. It's not like the NFL guys, many fighters never get a whiff of what it's like to fight on TV.

  5. More Super 6, perhaps even making them mandatory or atleast more relevant. Like Pride GPs in MMA comparison.

More judges aswell, shotty decisions are waaaaaaaay too frequent. From a casual boxing fans point of view, this is very dissapointing. It can even ruin the night from what ive seen.

More diversity in venues, seeing the same las vegas arenas, atlantic city or MSG just make you sick when you think theres a whole world of boxing out there.

Better ring entrances and better PR for fighters. I can talk about marquez or kessler and solid facts fall through peoples head if theyre not interested in the person fighting.

More 6 rders (no hate), watching some 6 rounders are ****ing crazy. It's like 20/20 cricket

I'd like a rule where a fighter who hasn't previously engaged in a 12 round fight can't fight for a title over the 12 round distance. Enough with the novice competition for champions.

I hear you. This could be the reason why Warren may well not allow a fight for Khan on the Pac vs Mayweather undercard - reason being he doesn't have full control of the promotion. He knows full well he can sell out an arena in the UK with Khan topping the bill against some corpse. I can see now lots of fighters promote themselves after n amount of fights with a promoter. Why does Warren (and some other promoters) believe that a loss or a couple of losses for their fighter is the end of the world? 30 years back it didn't matter half as much as it does now.

Hopefully some years down the road we'll see the vast majority of fighters representing themselves.

What would be better is boxers sign a fight and then they hire a promoter for that fight. So no boxer is signed to a promoter.

Bit like in the 1950's when the studio's owned the star. The promoter is the studio and the star being the boxer. This little cycle needs to be broken.

  9. I like themes and marketing. Boxing image is very stale with the general public image right now, even with pacman mayweather.

UFC and affliction gain a lot of their popularity with great marketing and imagery. Associate with bands, brands and mainstream culture a bit more rather than be a dark horse sport in the corner. (might be hard to take on a pure boxing forum but it's objectively the truth)

I liked how cotto pacman presentation was a lot differant. Better entrances and lighting, they seemd to be trying something new.

Exactly my plan, the Boxing Body makes the order of the two top fighters to unify, the boxers then get a promoter to try and haggle prices of venue and pr and ticket prices and tv coverage etc and after fight they aren't tied in together again. It will end all politics.

As Mcgrain said aswell, no novices fighting for titles, may well prevent tragedies as there isnt much chance of mismatch i.e Wee Barry Maguigan killed that novice lad that was overmatched, tragedy like taht need to be stopped.

1- Only one champ per weight class.

2- Just a bit less weight classes.

3- Return most boxing matches to mainstream television.

4- Create a weekly boxing card, Saturday or Sunday afternoon on a mainstream tv station.

5- Create an official boxing league if I may describe it that way... One league meaning one organization for all boxers, a bit like MMA does now but on a much bigger scale.

6- Determined and dead lock % splits of revenues between all members involved in boxing events. No matter the category or money collected from events, the splits always remain the same everywhere between boxers, promoters and tv networks.

7- The official money splits between fighters would also be pre-determined and fixed through time, based on the rankings of each fighters and not their popularity. Popular fighters would simply get more endorsement deals, that's where they would get the bulk of their bigger revenues compared to others.

8- The champ of a division always needs to fight the top contender or the next man ranked #1 behind him. If not, then he loses his title. The champ always gets the bigger cut of the purse, such as it is presently with mandatory deals.

9- Because boxing is now in the somewhat form of a league or one organization, fighters contribute to a pension fund with a small % of their purses, every fight they're in.

10- Only one set of common fighting rules for all boxing events. No variations as it is presently the case with various organizations and / or commissions.

boxing needs to be more accessible to the masses. ppv and all makes it hard for a general sports fan to become a true boxing fan. ppv also creates this reality where fighters are protected and champs remain inactive. promoters don't think they can sell a big ppv card on a guy who just lost his last fight....ergo the protection and inactivity. its all about maximizing profit and minimizing exposure to risks. this is bad for boxing...especially when it has historically been a sport for the common man. jim braddock all the way up to ali's big fights. imagine if joe louis and ali, etc had to fight on ppv?? would they or their fights be as big in a historical sense??

for all the complaints about the super six tourney...this is one of the big upsides. would dirrell be able to turn around and get huge fight w/ aa after just losing to froch?? would taylor be able to get a fight w/ ward after having just been ko'd?? guaranteeing 3 big fights to each fighter is a great way to avoid what i was just bitching about.

Nice. I never knew it was like that in the 1950's (sorry, only new to boxing in the last few years). This backs up my earlier post in the thread about the promoter working for the fighter as opposed to the other way around as it is today so it seems.
