Liston WAS bigger than Maricano's main opponents. Charles, Walcott, Lastarza, Moore and the Layne did not top 200. Louis had some weight on him becasue he was overweight. Liston also had a freakish reach- I think it was 85 if I am not mistaken. So my observation stands.
Liston was 6'1" and his lean weight was 215. He was thirty pounds heavier and at least two inches taller than Rocky ... in addition, why not mention slightly important facts like his 15" in reach ... you're gonna make a point, let's add the details ... he was much bigger than Rocky ...
If Marciano had fought on to fight/beat Patterson/Johannson/Liston I think there could be no doubting his lofty ranking in Heavyweight history. As it stands, he was damn good in his own era, but I doubt he'd beat Liston.
Ring Record book says 84 in. By the way isn't HBO's arm length measurement gay and preposterous?:rasta
Marciano feared no one, but I do wonder how the hell he would have beaten Liston? Sonny hit just as hard, if not harder, had a ramrod of a jab, had height & reach advantages over Rocky, etc. Liston could also box aswell. If its a war, then I only see one winner!
Liston was mentally fragile. He would most likely get frustrated and quit on his stool between rounds. Marciano would be punching him all over on the arms, chest, shoulders, head etc. Liston would not be able to handle that.
You guys have seen too many Rocky movies ... Sonny would have torn his head off ... please ... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fp67geuhJM[/ame]
I am Italian. I'm also realistic. Small, slow starting, cut prone short armed Rocky is going use his exceptional speed (which did not exist) to swarm all over Liston till Sonny self-destructs in a panic ? I mean, come on ...
Prime for prime if Rocky took the sort shots Moore/Charles/Walcott landed on him he wouldnt keep coming he'd be knocked cold. And Liston was technically a very good boxer. Marciano also has to get past the jab, get past the right, not get smashed by the hooks and uppercuts Liston threw so well inside. Rocky would have to improve his defense drastically, he said as much, I don't fancy his chances prime for prime Now as for talking about a 1957-60 Marciano against Liston you lot are tards, he was clearly fading by the time he faced Moore, a ring rusty, older, slower Marciano gets destroyed
Well an admitedly shot nny Liston was knocked out by Leotis Martin who had a similar reach and style to Marciano so it is not out of the question that Marciano could wear him down.
Based on what? We don't know what it would take to knock Marciano out cold because nobody even came close to doing it. For all you know his chin might be better than Ali's.
