Why is Bhop still ranked #4 P4P?

    Mediocre.

Not as black & white as that though, is it? He didn't look great in either, and only marginally lost. Some felt he won at least 1 of those fights, anyhow. He lost to a young, hungry up-and-coming contender who stylistically wasn't a great match-up.

Top 5? Who was ahead of him then? Given in fights before B-Hop, he beat Jones twice, avenged a split loss to Glen Johnson and had also beaten beforehand the likes of Griffin, Harding and Reggie Johnson.

Hopkins moved up 15lbs in weight after those tough matches with Taylor, with must people thinking he was done, and put on a dominant performance against the recognised #1 guy at LHW.

I will agree with you here. Winky shouldn't of been up at 170, but was still capable and Hopkins still handled him pretty well.

Again, it's not as straight-forward. Many felt he beat Calzaghe, and he put in a good performance for the most part against an unbeaten, relatively primed, elite fighter.

Pavlik was unbeaten, regarded as elite and largely picked by many to beat Hopkins. The fact that Hopkins put on such an absolute clinic against an 'elite' fighter 18 years his junior was extraordinary.

True, though this was only a keep active fight, a 'tune-up' for the prospective Jones fight, or now as it be, Danny Green.

You're looking at it in a very opaque manner. '3 wins/3 losses' it might be, but those 3 wins are against Tarver, Wright and Pavlik. And 3 losses were very, very close defeats to Jermain Taylor & Joe Calzaghe, if they were 'defeats' at all.

He won't take on Dawson because Chad is barely able to sell out a small-seater in his hometown. The guy just isn't a draw. I doubt he has any qualms about facing Chad Dawson when he faced a superior fighter in Calzaghe already.

He's facing Green because rightly or wrongly at this stage, he knows his legacy is sealed and he's all about the money. Green is a draw in Australia, and Hopkins sounds very excited about the promotion they can put on to make big money over there.

Look at 6 of his last 7 fights. Taylor x2, Tarver, Wright, Pavlik, Calzaghe. Isn't that enough 'meaningful' opposition for him to take a little break and look to make some quick cash momentarily? Who says he won't take on Dawson once Chad actually become a draw anywhere in America?

This is the post I couldn't be bothered making because I don't have the energy or interest to dignify such a ******ed thread. Glad someone did though.

People who use the logic that he beats up smaller guys must accept then that he's still a smaller guy fighting at a higher weight. As for the Dawson thing, I would like to see the fight too, but he (Chad) has spent the last two years fighting Johnson and Tarver. So now Hopkins should drop everything to do what Chad says? If Chad thinks it's his division, perhaps he should fight Cloud or Pascal.

Sir. I am afraid I'm gonna have to book you for exceeding your condescension quota.

Please report back the the retirement ho... I mean... Classic Forum for no less than two weeks. At this time you may, if you choose, return to the General Forum to display your superiority.

Have a good day sir, and a happy holiday season.

Actually Bhop started his career at LHW.

The Dawson fight makes sense from a legacy point of view. It doesn't make sense financially.
Bhop has made it clear that he is fighting for the money. The risk to financial reward for Dawson is terrible.
I agree that Bhop can do whatever the hell he wants. He has achieved so much and had such an amazing career - I am 100% behind him fighting whooever he wants. Would I like to see him taking on the best? Yes. Am I really interested in him fighting Danny Green? No. And I am a Danny Green fan.
But, fighting for money instead of legacy will need to hurt his P4P rankings.

I asked someone before, but they did not answer - would it seem wrong if Bhop fought Green and hadn't fought anyone else by next June if he slipped from #4 to #6 or #7?

It was just about the LHW limit if you want to be pedantic and it was one fight, but we both know you were fishing with that comment.

I would have no issue with that, but it would also depend on what the people placed above him had achieved in that time.

He debuted at LHW, lost, came back 14 months later as a MW and stayed there for 15 years. You're actually gonna try to pull that "he was a natural LHW" ****? Come on mate, keep it proper.
