What about a 205 and below tournament? The best of the 205 division (inc Couture), the best of the 185 division (which in my opinion is severely weakened now that Hendo has left), and anyone else who fancied it (GSP? Thiago Alves? Anthony Johnson? Koshcheck?).
I think a couple of not quite open-weight but "flexible" tournaments encompassing a few neighboring divisions would be okay. For instance, UFC could stage one that was welterweight through light heavy (which is within reason) and WEC could stage on that was bantam through lightweight (again, within reason). The behemoths in MMA are really no more interesting to me than those in boxing's unlimited division so discluding them doesn't concern me in the least.
yea that's a good idea too since many 205 lbs fighters is not that big. I mean bj penn did fight machida who is a lt heavyweight.
yea like royce gracie beating kimo back then. IT would be nice to see who's the real pound for pound king. Silva vs GSP would be a nice fight.
IT'd be a spectacle no doubt, but it'd kill off UFC completely! There's enough injuries as it is....Imagine how bad somebody would get hurt at the lower weights!!!
Pride put on amazing shows. I'm all for an open weight gran prix. It would settle all the P4P crap arguements.
It wouldn't really. I don't understand people saying that at all. That actually settles nothing as far as what p4p actually means.
yea fights that we could only dream of happen and that's what i want to see in the ufc. Imagine anderson silva vs gsp or machida fight. That would be fun to watch.
A UFC Open weight tournament would be awesome. I would take Penn subs Lesnar, Silva stops GSP, Couture TKO's Machida and so on and so forth. The possibilities are endless. Of course if Machida and Couture keep happening, that fight will happen eventually.
