How can you have GSP so high and Big Nog so low? Sorry mate, but I don't like this list at all. And where the hell is Cro Cop??
Very UFC biased list, where is Gegard? He should definately on the top 5 P4P. He has a similar mentality to Fedor, fights well in all areas like Fedor etc.
I think the Sakuraba disses are a little unfair. Sakuraba fought with little caution.. High risk sort of fighter, but he was a great technician if there wasn't someone in front of him trying to take his head off.. Sakuraba was the sort of fighter who would try to fight to a strikers level, and grapple to a grapplers level.. He had incredible submissions.
He lost twice in his prime to Silva & fight 2 was even until Sak had to pull out with a dislocated shoulder... that was the only fight of the 3 that he grappled with Silva, fights 1 & 3 he tried to strike with him & payed the price... he was way past prime by fight 3 anyway. Sakuraba weighed around 183 lbs at his best & was regularly submitting 205 lb men as PRIDE had fewer weight classes, not like UFC. No way Silva beats Sakuraba if they are the same size. Beating an injured Royce Gracie ? :huh Who the **** injured him ?... it was Sakuraba via leg kicks & he also beat Renzo, Royler, Ryan, Belfort, White, Newton, Rampage, Randlemann etc etc. Sakuraba was a lot smaller than Bas Rutten but at his best - as long as he didnt try strike with him - I still think he submits Bas. Pound for pound... he blows Bas away, its not even close.
Agreed, people have very short memories, so short that their memory cant think further back than about 12 months it seems. Nogueira is without doubt the 2nd best HW in MMA history, only Fedor ranks higher in that class & he is also the majority opinion as the best PERIOD, regardless of weight class. Nog has beaten some of the best fighters of all time, his record is phenomenal & in 3 fights never came close to being stopped vs a peak Fedor. If GSP has another `Matt Serra moment` in his next fight most on here will say he is overrated blah blah, I dont agree with that but at least Nog has established his legacy 100%, anything else Nog does positive will just be icing on the cake... GSP, on what he has done thus far SHOULD NOT rank higher than Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
Out of all the lists on this thread, I like this one the most. :good Although if there is one change I would make it would be to put Bas Rutten in there, just above Vitor Belfort probably. Former King of Pancrase and UFC HW champ with wins over Frank Shamrock x2, Funaki, Mezger, Smith, Randleman and a 20-odd fight win streak. Also managed to turn himself into a fairly rounded fighter after starting as a one dimensional striker.
1 - Fedor 2 - GSP 3 - BJ Penn 4 - Wanderlei Silva 5 - Anderson Silva 6 - Machida 7 - Alistiar Overeem 8 - Cro-cop 9 - Rua 10 - Nogueria 11 - Cotoure 12 - Frank Mir 13 - Lesnar 14 - Verdum 15 - Jackson 16 - Gracie 17 - Liddell 18 - Rashad Evans 19 - Bas Rutten 20 - Josh Barnett In no order and a couple there im not 100% sure on.
Dude Sakuraba was like 24-12? That is a garbage record. You are hugging his nuts way to much, it is obvious that he is your favorite fighter. And I respect that.
I originally had both Bas & Ken Shamrock, then realised I had 22 guys, they BOTH probably deserve a place, just couldnt think who to kick out & those 2 were last on :good
You do realise that the man should have been retired & was way past it by 2004 at the very latest right ? :huh Most of those losses came when he was a shot fighter vs men not fit enough to carry his spit bucket in his prime... he cant leave the game because of his love for fighting but the Sakuraba that accumulated all those losses aint the guy you see near the top of my list..... it should not be held against him for fighting on too long because you cant change the past or what he was capable of & the men he beat in his prime.

2 things on this list I just cannot accept or even understand: 1. How do you have Matt Hughes above GSP? 2. How do you have Randy Couture above Nog/Liddel/GSP/Penn etc etc? Just to anticipate your response to the Hughes/GSP thing being title reign? That is the ONLY thing Hughes has on him and if domination for a period in a weightclass is your criteria most valued then why isn't Ortiz higher? GSP's resume is better then Hughes's, his abilities are mountains above Hughes's and he proved he is the MUCH better fighter then Hughes. Oh and Henderson is too high too. It seems like you just love wrestlers.
He should be 2nd or 3rd TODAY but this is all time we`re talking about here & there are many men that beat better fighters that deserve to be higher... I rank ability very high (higher than most actually) & that is the main reason he is high on my list. When Anderson was getting triangled & caught with flying heelhooks (yes, you read correctly) vs mediocre at best opposition, you had Shogun Rua at only age 21 brutalizing Rampage Jackson & Ricardo Arona with freightening ease & winning the 2005 PRIDE Grand Prix. Anderson must rank lower than Rua, Penn, Wanderlei, Nogueria, Sakuraba etc if your talking all time. Those soldiers are time served & were all at one time or another regarded as top 1 or 2 p4p. Will he pass them eventually ?.... time will tell, he certainly doesnt lack ability but for starters he has to get his ass up to 205 & clean out there, then its a completely different tune but on what he has done thus far ?... no, not yet - phenomenal fighter tho. :good
