That's how the fight ended but if we're being honest about what really happend and not resorting to revisionism, Buchanan had needed a knock-out to win for a long while. He was truely outclassed for most of that fight by Duran and, in hindsight, was probably lucky a re-match never took place so at least he can hold on to his belief that things would have been different.

Calzaghe would've been knocked clean by any of the fighters I mentioned; I do agree that Buchanan was way behind but no shame in that going in agaisnt arguably the greatest 135lber ever.

Seeing as its Christmas I will concede that Nard Hopkins was marginally "live" when he took on Calzaghe....still think that the Philly arse bandit took the fight, but very, very close

    I totally agree.

I chose Calzaghe in the poll simply because he was THE MAN at 2 different weights. How he got there leaves a lot to be desired but it is still, in my opinion, enough to put him above KB.

Calzaghe's legacy is intwined with those two Ring belts.

I haven't changed my mind about the fight from the time that I first saw it a week after the fact. Rocky Duran was all over Buchanan for large parts of the fight (neither I nor Duran I am sure would use the word outclassed). Buchanan, as per normal, generally came on strong down the stretch, and he started to dent Duran a little. If the fight hadn't been stopped when it was then I believe that it would have been an awful lot ckloser than you are painting it.

Just for the record, I don't believe that Duran deliberately went south of the border to hurt Ken, I think that the refs actions caused that

Apart from the outclassed part I would certainly agree with that

The thing is, neither Hopkins nor Calzaghe are hugely proven genuine LHs, imo. Hopkins only victory there (apart from his last tune up), against a genuine LH, is over Tarver and Calzaghe's over Hopkins (a career middleweight).

Sure, technically, Joe got the Ring Belt, but imo, it's a bit of a paper claim. It all hinges on one victory over Tarver and how good you think Tarver is, a man Dawson has since beat twice (ok an older version). Also when Joe picked up the Ring LH title, the division was probably at its weakest it had been for a long while.

Sure, being the Ring champ at 168 and 175 is a good achievement by Joe, but imo at 175 it has a bit of a paper element to it.

Put it this way, Calzaghe is not a top 50 All-time light heavy based on that win.
    In my opinion.

memphis pal moore, young zulu kid, al murray, joe lynch, frankie mason, tancy lee, joe symmonds, and ptsy wallace are all world class fighters, wilde never weighed more than 7 stone and was outweighed by 20 pounds in a lot of his fights, that is a massive difference down at flyweight. he fought in the era the flyweight division that was pcked with fighters and he beat them all, then beat most bantamweights still never weighing over 7 stone

Calzaghe has nobody on his record like a prime Ismael Laguna let alone Roberto Duran and he beat Laguna twice. His win over an naturally bigger and unbeaten Donato Paduano is also often overlooked. Buchanan by about four places.

Buchanan couldn't punch his way out of a paper bag. Aside from Laguna and Watt, there's not a great deal on his record - someone mentioned Ortiz but he was terribly washed up by then. This is a typical boxing history conversation had by people who never actually ever saw Buchanan box. If Buchanan was so good, why did not British promoter ever want to put him on in Britain in title fights?

I think too many people say Buchanan now out of nostalgia. Give it 10 years and people will rank Calzaghe better.

No, because Calzaghes resume still won't look any better, and Buchanan will still look better on film.

Out of nostalgia? How the hell can me and Flea look back on Buchanan and say remember them days?

Icemax admittadly can but he remembers Jack Johnson.
