And that doesn't even include the fringe and pointless "World Champions"

Trust me, The Ring championship is the only one to acknowledge.

'Current Titleholders' on the right hand side of the page:

    http://www.ringtv.com/ratings/

This is the main reason why I only give proper creedence to a Ring Titilst. I do, however, regularly look at this list and it amazes me what the alphabet sanctioning bodies get up to:

Thats my attitude, I know its an extra belt on top of the ones we already have but I think its a case of 1 step backwards to take 2 forwards.

Ring titles would have more credence with me, if when they came up with the idea they gave them to the linear claimant, rather than simply their favourite fighter, or someone with a collection of silverware (in Jones's case, both).

It's just another trinket, there's no quality control over opponents, it's on a par with the IBO as far as I'm concerned.

A lot of the better fighters hold them, but there's no obligation to defend it against the best fighters.

Clearly, you cannot force any fighter to face any other, but you can strip them of their titles.

The IBF could really clean up in terms of credibility - they are the 'cleanest' alphabet, but let themselves down by ranking fighters badly...... for instance Martinez was above Munroe, despite two clear points losses.

If the Ring starts stripping fighters then it loses the linearality (sp) that makes up a big part of its attraction and then it DOES end up being "just another trinket".

Its always been a problem with boxing that some champs don't face the best opposition or are content to sit on their title. Allowing this to happen (within reason) and maintaining the "man who beat the man" is preferable to the Ring stripping champions, losing the lineal titles and leaving themselves open to the same charges of corruption and bias that the governing bodies currently do.

IBF look alright there but there logic when it comes to unifying and mandatories is terrible.
