With all the talk of rjj and his "glass jaw" and manny's VERY IMPRESSIVE and ADMIRABLE jump up through the weight classes, jones' jump gets lost in the mix...

manny was 16 years old when he turned pro at 106. jones was 17 years old when he won the golden gloves at 139. one of these jumps is rightfully celebrated as it should be and the other has sort of been lost in the shuffle.

EDIT: to post this that i posted on the second page so ya'll understand i am not comparing manny and rjj

    i appreciate the posts fellas....

and i can't emphasize enough that i'm not comparing what manny has done to what rjj has done.

what i'm doing is using the truly historical accomplishment of manny to remind everyone of something that roy has done that NEVER gets mentioned on here.

i'm not comparing manny's seven belts and ko's on his way up to 147 with this.

i finally found the video of rjj from the '86 golden gloves and wanted to highlight it is all.

    :good

and i am in no way slighting what manny has done. what he is doing is history unfolding in front of us.

i am just using to shed some light on a little bit of what rjj has done that seems to have been forgotten.

manny is moving up fight by fight and koing the best....roy never fought anyone when he got to LHW...he did not fight the best at every weight in a 4 year span....he fought guys he could clown on and stayed at 168-175 forever fighting mandatories

god. i'm not comparing the two. all im saying is the fact that rjj was at 139 when he was 17 and eventually took down a piece of the hw crown is a helluva achievement that goes unnoticed on here.

what manny is doing is amazing and i'm just glad i'm here to see it happen.

The question is really how could he become that devastating a puncher over such a short time period?
We all know about growing into a more adult body, but I dont think anyone has done it as quickly as Manny has stopping his last three opponents and overpowering all of them when they were supposed to be much physically bigger.

    For **** sake.

#1 - It wasn't 15lb of muscle. First of all it was 18lbs, and secondly the majority would of been water-weight, not muscle.

#2 - Roy wasn't 'shot' when he moved up to HW, he had major trouble coming back down. How do you think Manny would manage going back to 126 now?

Gaining 15 lbs of muscle in a few months and then losing it again in a few months afterwards, all while being on his way to turning 35....

Not the same **** at all....

Thanks OP for reminding us that Jones was a special gem from the very early days of his amateur career and what he accomplished through the years going up is quite sensational ! :good

Difference is Glass Jaw Roy strategically handpicked his way though Divisions while Pacquaio has fought the best at every weight class and a few guys twice. Jones refused to do this he took the easy way out and the path of least resistance.

Also Pacquaio does not have one of the most fragile Chins in the sport.

Who do you think Jones should have fought?
And do you think they would have beat him?
