McCullough was a superb fighter and gave us all some great nights cheering him on. The problem is his peak has been and gone and now he's getting into the realm of running down, in a roundabout way, some of our crop of current fighters.

I don't think anyone is buying that McCullough can't get a fight anywhere. And I don't think anyone is buying that Dunne is ducking McCullough. I mean if Eugene Heagney called out Dunne I don't think anyone would say he was ducking him if Dunne ignored it. I know McCullough was great at his peak. But come on, how long ago is that.

To be honest, and its starting to get on my nerves a little now, it looks like he's looking for a free meal ticket on the back of having done nothing of note in years. He was a great servant to Irish boxing but he's going to start to disenfranchise people if he keeps this stuff up.

As has been said in the thread earlier he needs to win some smaller fights before hes able to get some bigger ones. He got a number of high profile fights on the back of his reputation but thats all played out now. He needs to win a few fights before he can expect to get anything big.

Where is that article from by the way

    EDIT

I wouldn't be giving him stick yet but I just wish he'd either be honest about just wanting a money fight or actually jump in the ring with someone who would take the fight (i.e. Patrick Hyland)

Harry Christmas Cormac, and long may your excellent site continue.

I'm not totally sold on the Sinclair/Duddy fight, as I'd like to see them go different routes for success, but as Sinky says it could fill The Kings Hall at least.A contest like this will arouse great passion among the Ulster fans.It wont be the first time fist fights have broken out at similar high profile bouts.I witnessed first hand at Russell/Larmour all those years ago, passionate rival supporters fueled with alcohol beat lumps out of each other. I must add there was a sectarian element to that violence as Russell was from the republican New Lodge area of Belfast, and Larmour was from the loyalist Shankill Road.
Besides the Moore bout is more likely to happen[of these two prospective contests]. Moore's looked stale in recent performances, so Sinclair would start a clear favorite in my books but one couldn't rule out Moores body shots taking their toll on the Monkstown veteran.

ah away and shite wud ye. running fighters down, problem is too many of our fighters are protected and managed up the arse. so what if he is looking for a meal ticket!? this is PROFESSIONAL boxing my friend and wayne is out there to GET PAID not to mummy and blow smoke up the arse of other irish pros. wayne has more than paid his dues, fighting morales, winning a WBC title in Japan (not a created WBA 'interim' one) and fought in front of small crowds in the maysfield lesuire centre.

disenfranchise people!? why? because he wants the biggest domestic challenge out there? making fights happen that the paying public want to see?

the mayweather qoute applies here "if it makes money, it makes sense", bernard dunne should be jumping for joy. face it, when is he going to sell out the 02 again? only at world level which he will end up like splattered pancake or against mcullough (who incidentally doesnt punch all that hard). he should fight wayne and send him back into retirement and that'l shut him up. fighting patrick hyland in front of a old man and his dog might prove something to you but it wont do anything for his bank balance so why
    should he?

i think he is being honest about fighting for money when he says "I would fight anyone if the offer was right"

Right then in that case John Duddy is ducking me. Andy Lee too and also Matt Macklin. I'll fight anyone for the right price. But none of these lads are interested in fighting me. Its ridiculous. They are all obviously 'protected and managed up the arse'.

I'm in the same boat as McCullough now so I take it all back. Actually I'm doubly in the same boat as McCullough since I haven't won a fight in 5 years either and I also haven't won a meaningful fight this decade.

Macklin, Lee and Duddy are all chicken**** and certainly ducking me.

Just out of curiosity. What makes you think the 'paying public want to see' Dunne v McCullough? I don't see it selling out the Point. Dunne coming off a loss for a world title and 40 year old McCullough who peaked about 15 years ago. Do you see 9,000 people shelling out €60 - €150 for that? No title on the line. The winner of the fight gets nothing in terms of international recognition.

If he did say its all about the money then fair enough at least hes being honest. But the last I heard it was a case of 'no one wants to fight me because they are all scared.

More likely the case no one wants to fight him because hes now a boxing nobody who wants a big ****ing wad of cash. McCullough quite simply cannot command the of money he used to. Simple as that.

He may want 'the biggest domestic challenge out there'. I'm sure a load of lads would love to fight Dunne and get a payday. Paulie Hyland would love a fight with him but he doesn't deserve one IMO. However, he's light years ahead of McCullough in the pecking order of domestic boxers in line for a crack at Dunne.

As it is now McCullough is just talking through his hole. Hes a faded fighter running his mouth in desperation. And yes he will start to disenfranchise people if he keeps talking through his hole.

Why doesn't he go take a couple of small fights and prove he's still capable of beating somebody, anybody, the come back and call out Dunne in the summer when he has something to offer, like a win inside the last 5 years. Rather than 1 fight (a 6th round TKO loss) in the last 53 months

Wayne paid his dues a long, long time ago and got his rewards for them. He fought Morales a decade ago. He got a shot at Harrison (and got comprehensively beaten) and two shots at Larios (and was comprehensively beaten twice) without really warranting it. That was his payoff for his hard work and 'paying his dues'. You don't just get stuff handed to you forever because you took a few tough fights 10-12 years ago

mate sarcasm is a wonderful use of language but i can absolutely guarantee you that if people would pay a nice amount and watch on tv then those guys would fight you in a heartbeat. same applies for patrick hyland; if mccullough knew he was going to get paid against him then he'd fight him no bother.

the fight would sell in belfast for example. stick one from duddy, mccloskey or rogan on with them against a bum and people would go see it. what other options does dunne have to make some money before he retires with his senses intact?

i retorted to the general sense of disgust about wayne looking for money for his family in professional prizefighting. this is the sport we're in, not a love fest based on blind nationalism and without verging on that im amazed that a terrific servant to the sport on this island is being spoken about with such derision.if wayne takes the fight and gets smashed up, well then hard luck but dont jump on him based on him looking for fights. if in 5 years, dunne is down on his luck and in need of a bob or two would you begrudge him a shot against the current hot property domestically? all the 'afraid' of me stuff by wayne is for the microphones, hes been in the game long enough to know that and so does bernard.

I know that boxers fight for money. I've no illusions about that. However, I don't think you are giving fighters enough credit for ambition. Yeah lads like to make money but I'd like to think some of them are looking to achieve and move on in the game at the same time.

Dunne taking a fight against McCullough would show a spectacular lack of ambition and signal the end of Bernards career as a serious boxer.

If Bernard ever ends up in the position McCullough is now (although I'm sure Wayne has made more €$£ in his career than Dunne) then I'll be begging him to retire. Any fighter that goes from world level to no wins in 5 years is a sad sight and money, from a fans perspective, should not be a concern then rather than the fighters safety and dignity
