Jump to 2:36 of that video, and then please post a counter argument to his comment.

I know that might be a deal-breaker for most of you.

I would like to meet the 130lb man who gains 17 lbs of pure muscle mass in 18 months on a rice-based diet.

Pacquiao never gained 17 lbs. of muscle. His fight night weights over the past several years has fluctuated within 10 lbs. he's gone up in weight but he's also cutting less weight to make the weight.

i'm a weightlifter and yes it is very possible to gain 17 pounds of muscle in 18 months. In fact it's really easy if you eat 8000 calories like Roach says Manny does. There is a lot of calories in rice. The most important thing you need in building muscle is calories and like i said Manny eats 8000 a day. Of course only about 4000 gets digested into his system because he's burning off the rest of the 4000 calories doing hours and hours of boxing training a day.

Of course you need protein as well, and Manny probably takes protein shakes which 90% of boxers take.

    :patsch

what do you think he gained between the weigh in and fight time? you think he put on 10lbs of muscle overnight? it's water weight and food. at the weigh in, his bf% is extremely low and he's dehyderated, that's his muscle-mass weight.

I'm a weighlifter too. I went from 140lbs to 205lbs in the course of 15 months, with the heavy majority being muscle. But I was 19 years old, 6'0, malnourished, with a wide frame, and lived a sedentary lifestyle and ate 6 meals per day. I also did minimal cardio. Once I got into that frame, gaining any more muscle mass was next to impossible, and any extra weight I put on was almost entirely fat.

Pacquiao is about 30 years old, 5'6 or whatever. He's a grown-ass man. Grown-ass men don't suddenly explode like that.

I'm no expert in weightlifting, and no offense, but I highly doubt you are either.

It's not just about the weight, it's the explosive power. People say that Marquez fought the "old" Pac, but what are they suggesting? That in 18 months Pacquiao COMPLETELY overhauled his boxing skills? That was 3 fights ago that Marquez made him look foolish. Where was that blazing speed and crushing power then?

I don't know if Pac cheated, and I don't care really. But there's certainly room for speculation, and Pacquiao's unwillingness to take the tests is HIGHLY suspicious, especially after Roach already publicly agreed to doing so!

    http://boxing.fanhouse.com/2009/12/17/freddie-roach-on-the-mayweathers-olympic-style-drug-testing/

"FH: What are your thoughts on the random Olympic-style drug-testing proposed by the Floyd Mayweather camp for both Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao prior to the fight?

Roach: I have no problem with that whatsoever. Whatever kind of testing they want is no problem. I have trouble giving Manny Pacquiao vitamins. He won't take any protein drinks. No problem at all.

Rice is Manny Pacquiao taking steroids. That's all that he eats in the Philippines. "

That part's definately BS. It's far easier to gain muscle mass as you age (obviously up to a certain age). The reason you don't hear about "sudden" gains in older folks is coz few people take up bodybuilding in any serious way if they haven't done so past the age of 30. And if you've been jacking up since your teens you've already had loads of time to add muscle mass - there's obviously a limit to how much natural muscle mass you can gain.

Far easier for me to gain muscle mass now in my late 20s than in my teens (18/19). And the one guy at my gym who started a proper weight programme (real HIT stuff not the ***** crap) after he hit 30 (sedentary beforehand) added around 12lbs muscle mass (obviously ad******g for weight) in about a year. He bulked up easily.

Like I said, it generally easier for me to get bigger now - although the trouble is I've been doing it for a number of years so I've had time to get to this size already.

Didn't you get the memo? It's normal for 30yr old men eating rice to have their head expand.
