Rather than bitching and crying how about making a post breaking down Calzaghes career.

Both Cal and BHop are overrated beyond belief on here. :deal

Why are u talking about Calzaghe?
Hopkins resume isn't so great. No need 2 cry about it.
If Calzaghe's so **** how come Hopkins couldn't beat him?

It's amazing that you can spend 10 years at one weight and win all the major titles availble and at the end of it all, you get called an overated hypejob. It seems that if you hop skip and jump through the weightclasses, you get bonus points. Who cares about longevity eh?

I kinda understand where you are coming from...But the reality is this...During that time 1993-2005 "or so"...The Middleweight Division was REALLY SHITTY!!!! Name me the big name fighers he should have been fighting??? If my memory serves me correctly...an attempt was made for Calzaghe and Sturm in 2001 and 2004...And they said Hopkins "Priced himself out".

Just because the 154-160-168lbs divisions are EXTREMELY DEEP AND TALENTED NOW (Kelly Pavlik, Paul Williams, Sergio Martinez, Sturm, Danny Jacobs, Yuri Foreman, Angulo, Shawn Porter, Peter Quilin, Fernando Guererro, Spinks, James Kirkland, "The Super 6 Fighters...and more)

Should not take away from what Hopkins did. During that time...you know it as well as i do...HOPKINS WOULD FIGHT ANYBODY!!! But it was a WEAK-ASS PERIOD for 154-168lbs then!!!!

And also...Hopkins was a relative "unknown"...once he beat named fighters Trinidad and Oscar...albeit...Smaller fighters, then he "BLEW-UP".

And look at his resume After Oscar:
    Eastman
    Taylor
    Tarver
    Wright
    Calzaghe
    Pavlik

    Thats a nice list IMO!!!!

It is a very nice list. I just want consistency. You can't bash one guys resume and then talk up another which is similar (as some people do).
P.S. This resume **** is over-rated IMO. You can tell a good boxer even before he's faced anyone great.

The same can be done with anyone if you go on Boxrec. I aint seen Hagler fight live he retired before I was born, but thanks to Boxrec I never needed to watch Marvin Hagler fight for me to have a justified opinion on him.

Marvin Hagler: His 15 title fights BROKEN (Boxrec'd) DOWN

1979 D15 Vito Antuofermo WBC, WBA
Vito won titles at 154, beat Corro for the titles
loses 4 out of 9 fights after this draw

1980 KO3 Alan Minter WBC, WBA
Had 6 losses when he fought Hagler

1981 KO8 Fulgencio Obelmejias WBC, WBA
undefeated Venezuelan boxer, his 30 opponents had (about) 60+ losses

1981 KO5 Vito Antuofermo WBC, WBA
    Rematch

1981 KO11 Mustafa Hamsho WBC, WBA
Best name he fought was Alan Minter

1982 KO1 William Lee WBC, WBA
    His opponents had many losses

1982 KO5 Fulgencio Obelmejias WBC, WBA
    rematch

1983 KO6 Tony Sibson WBC, WBA
    Best win over Alan Minter

1983 KO3 Wilford Scypion WBC, WBA, IBF
    USBA champ 1 fight before

1983 W15 Roberto Duran WBC, WBA, IBF
Hopkins fought a natural WW, but Hagler fights a natural LW

1984 KO10 Juan Domingo Roldan WBC, WBA, IBF
    Most wins over Argentinians

1984 KO3 Mustafa Hamsho WBC, WBA, IBF
    Rematch

1985 KO3 Thomas Hearns WBC, WBA, IBF
    Blown up Welterweight

1986 KO11 John Mugabi WBC, WBA, IBF

1987 L12 Sugar Ray Leonard WBC
    Lost to a natural Welterweight

From this you should learn to lay of the Boxrec son

You can also do Azumah Nelson's long reign, and also look at the Tocker Pudwills in Calzaghe's reign.

Well, SRL didn't 'beat' Hagler. He won a close decision, and even that is debatable. I'm not going any more into this, as the subject has been discussed to death already, and will be during the next 20 years - I'm just saying Hagler-SRL could've gone either way, depending on how you score fights.

And imo SRL was a true MW when he faced Hagler, he even had a good fight at SMW after that.

With all due respect to DLH, you can't compare him to SRL, Duran or Hearns. Even Trinidad is a step below them, and he's considered Hopkins best win at MW. I'm not implying that Hopkins couldn't have beat Duran, Hearns or SRL, I'm not even saying he couldn't have beat Hagler - but it's a fact that Haglers quality of opponents is at least one level above Hopkins' opposition as a defending MW champ.

    prime Kessler
    prime Lacy

and the reason i say those....because he was the under dog i know in the lacy fight...not sure about Kessler, but i know a shitload of people were taking kessler

if you read my post dickhead...i watched all his fights from 1992 on up.
and the point was, he ****ing struggled with Mercardo and SHOULD HAVE BEAT him pillar to post because the guy never had a decent win on his resume.... i used box rec to show how bad of competition a guy like mercardo fought in order to be in the same ring with Hopkins....i mean i know you dont need boxrec to know the ins and outs of every guy the great segundo mercardo has fought
way to miss the point douche bag

LOL agree. Especially considering Hopkins political disadvantages throughout the early part of his career. Not only was he fighting in the ring he was fighting against promoters and sanctioning bodies, yet they still couldnt get him beat.

Hopkins was one of the most dominant fighters in the history of the division. Opposition was solid not great but how many greater middleweights lost to similar lessor opposition that Bernard beat during his winning streak?????
