I heard bad things about this guy but never bothered to see any of his fights. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXmSPbWJ2_4&feature=related[/ame] That is a disgrace!. atsch:rofl He jumps on Reid's head just to cry to the ref about a headbutt. The Ref WARNS Reid for punching Sven on the chin. No knockdown called, Ottke constantly charges in with his head, etc, etc. Wow. Just wow. :admin
He was judging a fight recently abroad, so he's still around. The cards for this fight must have been fixed. I think Reid was down four rounds at least after the first 5, even though he CLEARLY won 3/4 at least. Pantomime at it's best! Reid should have been WBA and IBF champ after this farce. A close call against Calzaghe could have gone either way, he may have been WBO too, along with his WBC. If this fight had taken place outside of Germany, with impartial control, Reid would have stopped him or won a landslide victory.
Don't get me going with this fight, it pisses me off everytime i think about it. Total disgrace to boxing.
Imagine how his reputation would've improved if he'd got the decision! Very unlucky guy and he was only a couple of rounds down against Calzaghe as well.
the problem is that while he MAY have had real talent (i didn't really see it) the bribery, inept scoring and biased referring stole victories from plenty of fighters not named mundine. we'll never know how good he was because his fights were essentially pre-ordaned: he was supposed to win. it's like watching the globetrotters: great players maybe but the other guys are being paid to go down. in ottke's case, the judges are paid to make the other guy go down.
I remember watching this one on t.v. when it happend. Reid was treated very badly. Reid was a good fighter when the mood took him, he could blow hot and cold, he was good winning his title away, and made a few defences then just seemed to not try against Malinga when losing his title, but then gave Calzaghe a hard night and looked awful in his next fight after against Branco. He was past his best I felt, when he fought Ottke but gave a good display
