Well, I remember Ottke very well because he fought a lot of CUbans back in the amateurs, and I had the great pleasure of watching the following: 1989: World Championships Moscow, Russia Middleweight: 3rd Lost to Angel Espinosa (CUB) points 1990: Goodwill Games Middleweight: Lost to Orestes Solano (CUB) points 1-4 1992: AIBA Tournament Berlin, Germany Middleweight: 2nd Lost to Ramon Garbey (CUB) RSC 3 1992: Olympic Games Barcelona, Spain Middleweight: Lost to Ariel Hernandez (CUB) points 6-14 1993: World Championships Tampere, Finland Middleweight: Lost to Ariel Hernandez (CUB) points 2-2 1996 Chemie Pokal Cup Middleweight Lost to Ariel Hernández (CUB) points 2-8 He only beat Juan Carlos Gómez on points, 9-9. Yes, I remember him quite well, and I never thought he would succeed in the pros.
Not so sure about the re-match but the first one was awful! Mads Larsen also clearly won for me. The Mitchell fight could be called close but for me mitchell won by a couple.
Apparently in an arguement with his ex-wife she hit him with something and knocked him sparko. Would love to have seen that.
That was actually quite a brutal knockout from the usually feather fisted Ottke. He needed it though because he had lost every round up untill that point. inexperience from the young mundine.
The Reid fight was actually pretty close - one couldn't be criticised for giving it to Ottke. Reid kinda gave up in the later rounds, having become frustrated at not being able to punch his opponent in the face. That doesn't account for the fact that the referee ignored the rules.
Yes, people really had their hopes up to see him get KTFO when he almost signed to face Dariusz Michalczewski.
Bernard Hopkins after watching that fight wowed NEVER EVER TO FIGHT IN AUSTRALIA EVER !!!!!
Sorry mate I'm not saying it was a shutout but there's no way you can say that you can score that for Ottke with a straight face. Some of the other decision fights he had you can make that case on but not that one. To be honest even the weird Ottke lovers that crop up from time to time on this site admit he lost that one. Ottke vs Reid was the deffinition of a boxing robbery! And the twat Roger Tillerman should have been banned from boxing for life for putting in one of the most crooked performances I have ever seen in sport!:deal
if i ever wake up and read in the paper where this ref was hooked by the ankles with chains to a tow truck and drug untill the meat skinned off his body and bone and flesh was hanging all over the place rattleing in the wind .. it will be the best morning i've ever had .. i mean that .. this guy is a callus peice of ****
Unfortuately I was reading that he was a judge in a fight just the other week! I would actually spit on him if I ever met the man.
Yeah well the reason he gave up is because he was being threatened with disqualification every time he landed a punch. Even still, I scored it 115-113 for Reid, and like you say, Reid basically gave up fighting by the 7th round. Up until then he'd won every minute and didn't seem to be having much of a problem with Ottke's awkward style.
Good find. I had heard that it was bad, but not this disgraceful. This is possibly the biggest farce I have ever seen. Why wasn't there an inquiry after the fight? If that ref was allowed to continue reffing after this it is a total DISGRACE. That ref. should have his balls removed and fed to the lions.
