Which fighter beat the most all time greats?

The favour is always going to go with the older fighters on a question like this. Firstly because the nature of the sport at the time meant that they churned out many more fights in a career, and secondly fair credit is rarely given to current boxers until well after they have retired.

It would make it easier if we had a something concrete to go on. Perhaps a consensus top 50 P4P list (as if we could ever agree on that!).

 

Jackie Kid Berg has alot of top class wins on his resume. Most notably Kid Chocolate twice and Tony Canzoneri

Ted Kid Lewis has 4 or 5 wins over Jack Britton

 

Steve Collins-Pyatt,Eubank twice,Benn twice.

 

Super to see Jimmy McLarnin getting some credit here. A friend of my grandads , who was about a billion years old at the time, used to tell me about the great Jimmy McLarnin when I was younger and getting into boxing.

I think the old timer used to live in the states and was roughly the same age and from the same part of the world as McLarnin and he used to sing his praises from the highest of highs.

However, strangely enough, he always said McLarnin was an underachiever and was actually better than is record suggested!

Anyway, nice to see the undisputed greatest fighter of all time is Irish :good

****ing hell. Can you imagine the killings there would be these days over a differental of 20 points between 2 judges!

 

BamBam, McLarnin was brillaint but an underachiever? i dont know he was pretty sucessful.

thats shocking judging, i watched Alan Rudkin vs Lionel Rose and one judge scored every round to Rose and the other two correctly had it a round either way to Rose or Rudkin.

 

Yeah thats what the auld lad used to say to me. He was a brilliant boxer but he could have achieved even more. Your man was adamant. Although, he was a bit of an auld crackpot. Still he knew his stuff to some degree and he certainly made me aware of a good few old school fighters that I then went out of my way to find out about.

In my own opinion, McLarnins record looks superb and I certainly wouldn't be accusing him of underachieving!

Good point, add to that the fact that he lost four rounds on the refs card for unintentional low blows.

If you're looking for footage 'Babyface goes to Hollywood' is an excellent docu.

 

I'd have to suggest that Lennox Lewis as with Calzaghe feasted on the rusted bones of 2 former great champions way past their best, in Lewis's case Holyfield and Tyson, in Joe's case Jones and Hopkins .. But if we are just going for name recognition then these 2 deserve a place ....

Ali's overall career resume is stellar, the quality he beat is remarkable ....
