These are 2 of my all time top 5 favorites, I think Bobby was a better boxer at 126 and turned into more of a brawler at 130. I think I know who takes this one but let me hear what you guys think.

Ps Thats Young Bobby on my new avi.

Chacon was more rugged and even tougher than Barrera, but not as slick or savy..... If Chacon can get Barrera into an "Alley" fight, Chacon wins....... If Barrera utilizes his ring skills to box with focus, then Barrera wins....... Its a toss-up.....

Seems like when most fans remember Bobby its the Brawling JL who engaged in many wars, but Bobby was slick and pretty fast as a feather.

To be honest I was too young to remember the prime Bobby that beat Little Red (I saw all of his fights at Jl though and the Arguello fight)but ill take my Pops word for it when he described Bobby as more boxer in those days, Since he has seen Bobby live many times back in the Olympic, and Forum hey days.

I would favor Chacon at either weight.

Very close fight either way, Chacon took place & won 2 of the best fights Ive ever seen vs Limon in their 4th fight & Boza-Edwards in their 2nd fight.
Of course Barrera took part in thee best fight Ive ever seen in the 1st Morales one - he lost that one, Chacon won both.

Id favour Bobby at 130, both men were better at 126 tho I havent seen Chacon in any fight bar the Lopez fight there, I heard he was best there.

At 130, Chacon by close decision.

Barrera to take the decision, just a better boxer and faster. Cant be bothered to explain any more than that

Not sure about either of those statements... it was Chacon`s boxing skills that dragged him back into the Boza-Edwards rematch in the late rds when he was behind & it was his better skills period that made the difference a yr earlier vs Limon in their 4th fight - 2 fights that make my top 5 all time, ferocious battles.... he also destroyed Little Red Lopez in 1 or 2 rds, it took Sanchez 13 & 14 rds albeit a different version of Little Red.

Olivares managed to stop Chacon when he was prime but Barrera aint Olivares.

My Dad was friends with some on Chacons team and he said that Chacon trained in the bars for that fight and was far from being in shape for that one.

Also Chacon stopped Lopez in 9 not 1 or 2 rounds.

Barrera looked like he was gonna flop after being hammered by Junior Jones in '96 and '97 on HBO, but Barrera rebounded well when he changed-up and began boxing better and picking his shots more skillfully....

Barrera was a MUCH BETTER technician than Ruben Olivares........ Olivares was a warrior with great power at 118 to 122 pounds, but he is not as good as M.A.B. was in the ring.....

Ruben Olivares was ordinary and very kayoable at 126 pounds later on in his career....

I think Olivares was still pretty damn good at Feather too he had some losses towards the end but he kod Chacon(twice even if Chacon wasnt in shape) and Was beating legendary Alexis Arguello before being stopped late.
I agree that he might not have been as good a boxer as Barrera at Feather, But he hit harder and was still a helluva fighter even at 126(not ordinary)

Must have got that mixed up with the Olivares-Chacon fight, I believe Ruben got Chacon outta there in 1 or 2 (only seen highlights of both fights)

A lot of people have Olivares down as the best Mexican boxer ever, if not then more often than not in the top 3, Barrera is never ranked that high by any fans that have a good knowledge of Mexican boxing history.
I heard Olivares only weakness was that he didnt consistently coming in in shape.
