Kinda of shock how low most of you guys put Conn.

The guy nearly beat Joe Louis for crying out loud.

 

I'm not sure i can hand out points for "nearly" tho. There's 10 000 nearly's.

Thanks for making ne look at Conn record again. Very impressive as he was beating good fighters near their peak. does not look 6-1 1/2 on film BTW comment.
Damn hard bunch of guys to rate, Tiger out of his depth here and I dont rate Foster as high as most, Jones I find so hard to rate at L/h and the other three I could alternate every next day.

 

Who the hell else around at the time at lightheavy or heavy would have beaten Conn the night Louis ko'ed him? NO ONE!! That in essense, as much as any of the wins on his ledger, and they were considerable, is the reason to put Conn at #1 or at the very least #2..and that may have clarified the question to me of who outranked the other ..Conn or Loughran.

Montell Griffin was as short as Qawi and no less limited, and landed consistently on Jones.

Jones was wary of fighting an old shell of Buster Douglas, nevermind a still-live Holmes.

Qawi and Mustafa give him harder nights than any of the challengers Jones actually fought at 175lbs during his prime, and old Holmes beats him and stops him at Heavyweight.

McCallum saw the distance with Jones, he wouldn't see the distance with Spinks...put it that way. We're talking a shot to pieces McCallum, I can't even believe you brought him into the equation.

Are you trying to be funny? Spinks never lost at LHW and could have gone on to dominate for a further 3-4 years by my estimation. He fought in a much tougher era than Jones, who, in reality, went 1-2 against the best ever Light Heavyweight he ever faced. It's like comparing Hamed's reign at 126lbs to Barrera's reign at 126lbs. Hamed was more dominant but look at the competition for pete's sake. Night and day. It's easy saying they looking medicore because Jones made them look that way, but what did Bryant Brannon, David Telesco, and Richard Hall achieve outside of fighting Jones?

If you hold Jones reign at 175lbs in higher regard than Spinks seeing off Qawi, Mustafa, Johnson, and Lopez then you one crazy dude.

Well Spinks actually did win the Heavyweight title (even if Holmes was aged, but not the point) and he cleaned out a good light heavyweight division without a loss. Conn isn't getting ahead of him for a start in my books.

 

To be fair though the Louis that Conn fought would have anihilated the Holmes that Spinks fought.

Conn's light record is rather impresive. He was beating world champions as a teenager.
