Sugar Ray Robinson by 12 round decision. He is just a little better than Leonard in every department at welter.
this is a matter of pride so Robbie steps it up and batters RL in Terry Norris like fashion for a late round stoppage scoring knockdowns in rounds 3, 8, and two more in rd 11 before the ref steps in
I think if Leonard uses his speed, flurries and gets in and out while using lots of lateral movement, his faster hands/feet could give Robo nightmares
Robinson gets off first in this match forcing Ray back and taking away the iniative and landing his combination punches. Robinson keeps the pressure on and takes a 8-4 9-3 kinda decision.
Hmm......... Well, personally I could see Robinson landing with a lovely left hook and hurting Ray. I could see Ray desperate, throwing awesome flurries that throw Robinson off of his rhythm. I could see both men trying to impose their will with jabs. I see some rounds of caginess, but both men opening up in certain portions. I just see Robinson as the better fighter between the two, and I think he will land more punches. That's how I see it really. A real close fight with both men having their moments, but Robinson snatching it by a point or two. Both men marked up, neither man floored. Hard fight to pick though, if anyone can pinpoint a stylistic advantage that may swing it in Leonards favour, please let me know and learn.
I believe Leonard had a little better reach. That and maybe the speed factor just might give Leonard a small advantage?? I agree very hard fight to pick.
Horrible selection by the forum. Basically people have gone for who they consider the #2 h2h WW, but what advantages does he hold? He's an inferior puncher and an equivilant boxer with no hints of a style advantage. I like Mino's Rodriguez shout much more. Robinson by decision.
Well Leonard has a chance. Personally i thought Burley had the best chance but LMR was a great shout but both of these men differed than the way i chose a fighter to beat Ray, by being aggresive and backing him up to quell his offence, these gusy would be more about counter-punching and not letting ray get set for his offence which makes for a way more interesting discussion.
To be fair, he won with 3 votes . I'll probably do the Ali one next to try and drum up some more interest, if that fails I'll probably just abandon the idea. As for advantages, I think the votes were cast on the basis that the posters believed him to be the quicker fighter and capable of matching Robinson in the technical department.
