I studied this fight from the first day I got the tape many years ago and it was very easy to score. Ali continually missed the mark and Young continually found the mark. I have Jimmy the winner by a very wide margin
NAW!!! Ali pressed and landed to the body when he forced the inside action......... Young merely countered with "ONE" shot that landed at a time...... No combos' from Young..... Ali was the ring general.... Young sparred well, but he fought like a wus........ Ali won.... MR.BILL
I never like Young as a boxer......... Never........... I cared LESS about his early 80s comeback........ It went NOWHERE!!! After Cooney KO'd his ass in '79, James Young was DONE!!! MR.BILL:bbb:hat
Last time i watched it Bill Young was stopped on cuts without a KO to be seen. Truth be told Cooney was somewhat struggling. :huh
There weren't any highlights in it. It was 15 of the most tedious rounds I've ever seen and neither man looked good in it.If you're of the opinion that a challenger has to decisively win to take the title from the champion then Young didn't deserve it but if you don't buy into that then Young probably deserved the nod. A ****ing awful fight to watch, difficult to score and probably best forgotten about to be honest.Watch the Thrilla or the Rumble if you want to remember Ali more fondly.
YES! Young's nose was ****ed......... Cooney bloodied Young... It was a TKO........ Cooney still won.......... :hat MR.BILL
I just reviewed the fight....... It was my first fight I EVER SAW in its full length...... I watched this on ABC with my dad and the neighbor next door in 1976.......... I instantly became HOOKED! Ali became my God........ 'Til this day, Ali still walks on water with me......... Fights that sucked deeper **** were / are: "Byrd-Williamson" and "Holy-Valubum." Plus a few others at heavyweight............ MR.BILL:deal
Ali's my fave but some of his later fighter were hard hard work. I found the Spinks rematch sleep inducing as well.
"Ali-Spinks 2" was historic, but also boring and listless............ Ali was shot at age 36 in '78, and PROBABLY in the early stages of Park's disease....... Ali had no power at all in 1978 against Spinks in either encounter.......... For a man 220 + or - pounds in 1978, Ali hit like a Light-Heavy by then....... Ali's LAST GREAT effort in the ring was against Ernesto Shavers in 1977 up in New York, IMO!!!! bbb MR.BILL
NO! In '76 I was clean........ My drug and alcohol abuse didn't hit until 1983 and up.......... :deal MR.BILL
