Never understand how anyone can have an opinion about a fighter he hasn't seen. Word-of-mouth is one thing, but nothing compares with seeing him fight.

You like Tunney. I like Tunney too, but he's got a shiner the size of Connecticut sitting right there on the face of his legacy.

    And it's black.

Just like the fighters he never faced.

Let's see a show of hands... Who would agree that HAVING ONE EYE is no excuse for not beating guys NATURALLY BIGGER THAN YOU to begin with?

I see just one, Axl Nose.

You're alone in the world. That means that you should go lay down and think about your reasoning here.

By the way, Tunney's greatness was confirmed repeatedly by Greb. And Greb's greatness was confirmed repeatedly by Tunney... who was a pall-bearer at Greb's funeral in Pittsburgh.

What do you mean thoughts of my own? I wasent there you idiot, but ive looked up all accounts of the 2nd fight and interviewed at least one eye witness and its clearly a major controversy as to who won.

Axl_Nose your such a fan of Gene, he wrote two books. Ever read them? No?
What did he himself have to say in regards to the Greb rematch decision?

Ive said on countless occasions that Greb was a great fighter .. that isnt even in dispute .. But Tunney beat Greb 4 times, thats a fact my friend and he beat Dempsey twice whether you and the rest of your troop agree .. It doesnt matter what you say and you can come up with excuse after excuse, Greb never made a big deal of fighting with one eye, in modern terms a fighter wouldnt do it but i understand the social conditions back then .... But once again Greb himself never whined about his eye problems he just got on with it like the warrior he was, its his boot licking fans like yourself who keep bringing it up and whinging and im sure Greb is looking down on you and thinking what im thinking ..... Greb was a great fighter, howabout you give Tunney a bit of credit ?? You cant do it can you, Greb Fans like Dempsey fans and like Tyson fans are like religious zealots, you just cant have a serious discussion with them ....

Greb was a great fighter, there is no doubt .. Dempsey was a great fighter, again there is no doubt .... Tunney was a great fighter whether you like it or not, open your mind and let your bias disappear ....

Im sounding like im Tunney's grandson or something but i hate it when a great long dead fighter isnt given his fair dues .. Gene Tunney deserves boxing fans respect ..... You and Slakka can talk **** all you want ....

I get the feeling that if Tunney had no eyes, no legs and no arms you people would still give him no credit .... Whats wrong with you, the skill of a true boxing fan is to judge a fighter on his merits and leave your personal favouritism and bias to one side .. You can give Greb and Dempsey all the credit in the world for being the truly great fighters that they were but save at least a few positive words for another great fighter like Tunney .... Dempsey and Greb did ..

You still fail to give Tunney any credit for anything ?? Its killing you, howabout you give me a quote from Ray Arcel, that will convince me ....

    You know nothing ....

I've read plenty on Greb and Tunney, i'd recommend 'Tunney - Boxings brainiest Champion' by Jack Cavanaugh ..... You can read i take it ?? I have my doubts !

Who the hell are you ?? your the kind of guy that joins a conversation halfway through and makes jokes, thats great im sure your a popular guy ....

Do you have any positive word to say on Gene Tunney ?? Im getting nowere with these bums .... Ive already said Greb and Dempsey are brilliant champs, my goal is to make them give Tunney just a few words of credit .. Is it such an impossibility to give a few positive words on Gene Tunney ??

How the hell did this argument start, this thread was about Ray Robinson !!

Slakka show your a true boxing fan and give Tunney an ounce of credit for his career ?? Do you really believe that Tunney was just a fancy dan bum who got lucky against Greb and Dempsey ?? GIVE A CHAMPION SOME CREDIT !!!!

I'll give any Champion credit, whats wrong with you people !! Your either very young and immature or you know nothing about boxing, im guessing both !!

Cavanaughs an idiot who held on to my Greb material for years when i lent it to him as a gent with like a couppla moths in mind at the most and do you really think you need to tell me about his book?

Answer my question about what Gene said in re Greb/Tunney 11

Axl, you are going overboard to the point of absurdity here. You're acting as if this is a thread dedicated to how badly Gene Tunney sucked, when you're the only one thus far who's even brought him into the equation as if he's being low-balled. All we're doing is giving Greb his just dues. Chill the **** out.

    ....
    * Tunney gets credit here, my young friend. He was a great fighter. I don't deny that. Now, please show how fair you are by naming a black fighter that he faced.................................................. Can't do it? Now proceed to temper your enthusiasm for Tunney.

    * Greb never discussed, nor allowed anyone who knew about his blindness to discuss it because he kept it a secret. For obvious reasons. So of course he didn't "whine" about it. But it is one of the things that make him so damn remarkable.

    * Tunney beat Dempsey twice. No one disputes that. His record against Greb is absolutely, rightly, disputed. The Tunney-Greb series could well have been justifiably even in the end. You seem to take decisions, even newspaper decisions, at face value. So, we shall put you to the test. Tell us who you believe won the following fights:

    1. Holyfield-Lewis I
    2. De La Hoya-Sturm
    3. Whitaker-Chavez
    4. Mayweather-Castillo I
    5. Toney-Tiberi

Be careful now, because it's a trap. You wrote "Tunney beat Greb 4 times, thats a fact my friend... whether you and the rest of your troop agree"-- and that tells me that you accept any decision, good or bad at face value. So now you have a simple choice. You can...

A.) make a jerk out of yourself by being consistent in accepting every one of the declared winners of the above bouts as the rightful winners,

    or

B.) admit that your line of reasoning has been demolished.
