Are you saying that I'm lying? I think you're over-estimating Pavlik's glass jaw.

I'd have to go with Mugabi. Pavlik is vunerable early, and Mugabi is so powerful, I can't see Kelly making it out of the first four rounds. Pavlik knocks people out, but it's more of an accumulation.

He had a good chin before the Hagler fight. Hagler ruined him.

The Beast kos The Ghost in 4 rounds:bbb

Probably his best win is his comeback win over James Green tko 10.

He was also impressive beating Frank Fletcher tko 4

He was also impressive in ko's of Nino Gonzales and Curtis Parker, 1 rd ko's, and a ko 3 of Gary Guidan.

Green had two losses in his last handful of fights, one a stoppage.

Fletcher had been badly slaughtered two fights earlier and was fading bad, not to mention he was never that good anyway.

Tho obviously limited the Parker fight showed his enormous power. That's not under review at all. Enormous puncher.

Nino had been whupped by a very raw Hilton the fight before.

Guiden had been bashed by Moore two fights earlier in a war.

Lets be honest, all these guys were damaged goods by the time Mugabi fought them and were never that good to begin with anyway. Nobody is doubting his frightening power, but just how good was he really? He just doesn't have the runs on the board and Pavlik, love him or hate him is light years ahead of anyone Mugabi actually beat.

He looked great against Hagler, but there were plenty of circumstances involved and if anything the Beast rose above his own abilities for one night, and one night only. Imo it's not a true indication of how good he was. He never showed as much prior, and nor did he after.

When you look at Mugabi, you have to look at a fighter who never really reached his potential. He moved up to MW to fight Hagler, which is a big risk for a JW who never won a belt. Had he waited a year or so and got more experience, things might have been different for him. The Hagler loss truly broke his fighting spirit, which he never recovered.
The other contenders I mentioned were just gatekeepers, but they were good risks whom he gained experience from. Let's not forget that Mugabi was still coming up when he fought Hagler, so it really isn't fair to judge his opposition so harshly. After all, it was better than Tony Ayala's.

When we pick hypothetical fights we take the fighter on their best night.

Pavlik showed everything he had the first Taylor fight IMO. It's that resilient Pavlik you want showing up.

Mugabi showed how tough he was in the Hagler fight.

Against a lesser chin that aggression would see him through. Against someone shown to be hittable and hurtable early as Pavlik was, you'd have to go with Mugabi.

Anyway, isn't it time your name reverted back to Cotto20:lol:

When all is said and done however he still never beat anyone that much chop.

The big dramatic KO artists that never quite made it always seem to get a bit more understanding and fanfare than fighters just as good or better whom weren't so exciting and didn't grab us quite as hard imo.

Your point about him not reaching his potential is an interesting one, debatable both ways. I'm not convinced but concede it's not impossible.

The other point is that if, and it's still an if, it was true then he didn't have what it takes anyway. There are thousands upon thousands who have come back from losses this bad and worse and kicked butt. Indeed some don't come back the same, but they are marked accordingly.
