Lets have an objective discussion. From beginning to end. No hating. As I look both records. I noticed that FMJ was placed in the spotlight more giving him a quicker rise to success. He has his title fight against Genaro Hernandez who by most accounts is a Hall of Famer. Manny's first two titles were against fellow fighters whom although they had good records, were not world class fighters and had built their records up by fighting unkown asian fighters in asia. Nobody in Manny's first 40 fights will be mentioned in this forum except for Marco Antonio Barrera. 13 of Pac Man's 15 fights were against Hispanic fighters with the same style. JMM beat him at least one time because after the first round he realized trading was going to lose him the fight and adjust to a boxing first style and in most opinion had won him the fight...not so. Floyd had a rise to fame because of the name and the Marketing and garnered a belt by beating Genaro Hernandez which is universally recognized as a HOF for the weight class (check the classic forums before you hate). Floyds biggest knock against him is picking fights he is the odds on favorite to win. Hatton at the wrong weight, JMM at the wrong weight, a slower Gatti. In hindsight Pac's camp picks Mexican brawlers who are right up Pac's alley (and a rumored feather fisted Malinaggi). Aside from JMM pac has never faced a boxer anything close to Floyd's ability and when he did (EM) he lost. Floyd has faced three or four in your face or "dangerous" fighters. JCC whom he lost to in the first fight, Jesus Chavez while nowhere on Pacs level, never gave an inch, Hatton was seen as a dangerous opponent because of the Tzyu tactics but got out gamed and Corrales who couldnt deal with angles. None of Pac's opponents, aside from the Morales and JMM, had 1/4th the ability that FMJ and conversely none of FMJ presented the problem Pac will pose. I must take note that neither one of them has a great WW record (hear me out). Pac is 2-0 beating a past his prime Oscar but a solid Cotto. But Floyd is actually 5-0. Yeah I know Hatton doesnt count, Sharmba sucks, but Zab was considered too fast for Floyd and Baldormir was the champ. Oscar weighed 165 fight night so that wasnt really a WW fight nor was it convincing. Both have something to prove. David Diaz is eqaul to Arturo Gatti (at least to me) so one of their titles is a wash. The two lightweight titles while legit are both "light" because none of this eras flyweight or superbantam weight were listed in any top 25 list here or on the web. So manny was a giant among men...even though he got clocked a few times. Floyd's considered a cherry picker and while his record shows signs of it, I can't guarantee that because of his MOUTH that some people just didnt want to deal with the headache. I mean we have on record, he challanged cotto and mosley at least three times and nothing ever came out of it. So who knows who is telling the truth. I think this fight and this fight alone can define who is better, not just because they fight each other, but because in reality there are just as many flaws in Pac's resume as in Floyd's. Everyone is saying that Pac's WW resume is better, but he fought at 145 lb for the 147 lb title. Let me kmow what you think.

Do you want the short or the long answer first?

    Short: Pacquiao

    Long: Manny Pacquiao definitely.

As of now, this isnt even debatable. Only hardcore Floydettes would say Floyd and most Floyd fans would say Manny. Every respectable boxing magazine, websites, writers and analysts would also say Manny.

Both are good but I have to go with Pac. As hes come a long way and has also fought better fighters. Has not backed down from a challenge while Floyd has been more calculated. Not to say Foyd would have lost certain fights but he never took them so we will never know. Maybe one of the ones he avoided could have beaten him or if he had a bad night. But he always chose the tactical path.

It's Manny Pacquiao at the moment by a clear margin.

Pac's also had so many victories over the big three Mexicans that people forget about his annihilaton of a real good fighter in Ledwaba or his come-from-(way) behind KO victory over chatchai Sasakul. I dont know how many people actually know who Sasakul is on this forum.

Does it matter that 38 of Pac's Fight were in the Philippines against no name fighters? I think every boxer has at least 50% of their career which is irrelevant, but really in total objectivity, I was unware that 65% of his record is against unknown asian fighters. The next 30% is against Mexican warriors, who I agree are the cream of the crop, when facing a boxing mexican vs. a brawling mexican Pac is technically 0 and 3. Every major boxing network has Pac losing at least two more fights on his record.

He has a point and has been raised several times by others.

It follows the same principle that if Tyson beats Ali, Ali would still be considered the greater boxer.... by a long long shot (and I am a big Tyson fan).

Thats a stupid post, why exclude hispanic fighters? Thats like saying, without naming ANY black fighters, tell me the 5 greatest wins on Ali's record. Ridiculous.

Just to humour you: Sasakul(lineal flyweight champ who beat flyweight legend Yuri Arbachakov), Ledwaba(then top 15 p4p), Ricky Hatton(At 140 where he hadnt already lost to Luis Collazo), Nedal Hussein, rakkiatgym.

Hispanic fighters dominate the lower divisions. Try to do the same for Floyd, you'll struggle too and he fought most his career at much higher weights.
