George Groves will never get a better chance to get his first title now Charles Adamuis the commenwealth title, he would also learn in this fight aswell from a durable unorthodox fighterbut still verry beatable. Then he could defend against Carl Dilks who is an average boxer.

I disagree, its one thing being able to win a title against a weak champ but it can also bring unwanted obligations/ mandatories that can be a PITA for a prospect.

Could win the fight but winning the title would restrict his opportunities to learn his trade and develop I think with mandatories etc.

the CW title doesnt have any obligations, could beat Adamu then defend against bums for as long as he wants.

So then whats the point? He either ends up getting a tough defence he doesn't need or he wastes precious learning time fighting AfroBums defending his title.

Its pointless Groves picking up that title at this stage of his career.

Adamu might not be highly skilled but he is durable and throws punches unlike the bums groves has been fighting this gives him publicity and a learning curve

The Commonwealth title isn't worth much these day, Groves' managements choice of opponents will be dictated at least partly by the fact Groves holds the title, he could end up with a challenger he'd not ready for, wasting time defending against bums etc, etc.

Its just not worth it IMHO. He's a 7 fight novice, holding that title would restrict his options rather than open things up for him.

point is that a CW title allows you to headline a Sky Sports FNF card, be great in terms of getting him exposure and hyping him up.

At this stage of his career Adamu would beat Groves .... too much ring craft and he was coming of the back of a long absence when he fought Dilks ... also I feel Dilks would beat Groves too ....give him another 18 months then he would IMO be better than Adamu ....

Groves does not need to fight for a title now... Booth and Haye will keep him well on track... He is in a poistion to get excellent exposure as he will be on all the undercards that the Hayemaker headlines...

Groves is an excellent prospect and I would hate to see him waste any of this for the sake of going for a title just to have one rather than building up his experience and ability and taking a title as and when he is ready to take it...:yep

Getting hyped on a FNF card defending a Commonwealth title against some African mug? Big deal. As No Mas says, the far better way is for him to learn his craft, against opponents that his management have full selection control over, whilst getting exposure on undercards.

He should keep on fighting bums and short notice guys. No need to change everything now by going for a belt and trying to fight decent opposition.

Groves is clearly better than both Adamu and Dilks - the only way they have a hope is if Groves gasses (which looks unlikely based on the workrate he has shown so far) and although Groves possibly has a weak punch resistance (although not seen in the pros at this time) I cannot see either Dilks or Adamu knocking him out (if Adamu couldn't hit Dilks with anything big, then he is not hitting Groves with anything).

I would give Groves another 3 fights before he challenges for the commonwealth/British title, let him get some more experience against some of the Brit top 10/gatekeepers of the domestic scene. I would throw him in a 10 rounder against Dilks now.

Booth was interviewed Ringside at the Adamu - Dilks fight saying he was interested in the winner and that the Commonwealth Title is one Groves should be in a position to be winning in 6 or 7 months time
