benn would of eating calzaghe up in that form, nobody would beat benn on that specific day or fight. considering calzaghe isnt much of a puncher either benn would walk through him too.

tough fight, calzaghe has more dimensions to his game then mcclellan who was cutting weight to make 168, thats why Emanuel steward dropped him as his chief coach, and thats why mcclellan was intent on taking benn out from the opening bell as he knew that the further the fight progressed the harder it would become on his body. i see benn coming up short against a boxer puncher like joe, he did well against 1 dimensional fighters like barkley and g-man but joe was far from predictable and would probably outwork him

Benn has nothing for Joe I'm afraid. He's tough but Joe will run him ragged.

I love Nigel Benn he is one of my ATF's...But that style would have had Calzaghe licking his lips...Calzaghe would have boxed him in the same way he bamboozled Jeff Lacy...:yep

The pure aggresion of Benn was something to behold and Chris Eubank found his way through it...

I remember watching a fight sometime ago and Benn, Eubank and Collins all agreed that if Joe Calzaghe would have been around in their era he would have beaten them all in their prime...

JC could not want a better compliment than that...:yep

That was a great compliment, and I could see Joe out boxing Benn. However the Nigel Benn of that night was something else, he was superhuman, sometimes great fighters have nights like that, nights when you just cannot see them being beaten by anyone it's an intangible all the debate about styles, training etc etc can't explain it.

I truly think Calzaghe would have beat Benn, Eubank and Collins had he been around in their era. But the Benn of that night I just cannot see being denied victory by anybody.

great start by benn but calzaghe uses his southpaw style and workrate to keep nigel out of a brawl. what got benn back into the McClellan fight was geralds poor defence and average stamina. of course benns heart and never say die attitude got him to beat him to the punch but that was mid round stuff. i dont think calzaghe would allow himself to get hit enough to be hurt and benn isnt counterpucnhignor leading traps ala hopkins, jones, reid. he is looking to land the right hand followed by the left hook.

calzaghe wins in a great bloody tough battle with a 7-5 to calzaghe

Calzaghe faced no one near Benns level at that time.

I agree that some fighters have Superhuman moments...Chico v JLC is one that springs to mind for me...

I think that JC v Benn is the mother of all fantasy fights... What would it be billed as...? Has anyone designed a poster for it, I have not got a clue how to do it or what software to use... Longcount et al used to have a few up on here...

I am thinking about it, but I still see JC as the winner...

Who would be the ideal referee for this domestic thriller... My choice would be Ritchie Davies...he is our best ref by a country mile...:good
