Calz vs Hop-- Divided more or less along UK-US lines?

It would have happened years ago if Hopkins had not pulled out tho remeber.

That was a boring, boring fight. Neither guy could hurt the other guy, both were good defensively, not much power between them...their styles are just wrong for one another. Calzaghe got the nod in most of the rounds because he was at least hitting Hopkins, whereas Hopkins would land one or two mediocre shots per round. It looked as though Calzaghe was doing what he wanted to do in there while Hopkins was having a hard time executing his plan (run away, jump in with 2 punches, tie up and hit until the break). Calzaghe kept evading Hopkins' combos coming in, and he protected himself well on the inside. He often caught Hopkins coming in as well. Hopkins hit him with 3 or 4 good shots the entire fight, but it wasn't enough, imo.

P.S.
I'm American. The fight should have been made in 2002 when they were both in their primes. Calzaghe at this point has zero punching power which makes him boring to watch in my opinion. Hopkins was a little bit less conditioned than he would have been back then. In 2002, you would have had a much more powerful Calzaghe and a fitter Hopkins, so the fight would have been a lot more action-packed.

In 2002, Calzaghe once again challenged Hopkins to a fight. However when the contracts were about to be signed hopkins pulled out...

it isnt joe's fault hopkins ducked him during his prime

 

All that happened is Calslappy showed he can'r punch for **** and is a lefty powder puffer and that Hopkins had no balls. Hopkins had the clown down and could have finished it, but chose to remain a safety first fighter against a guy who slaps like a girl....pathetic on both ends.:roll:

 

I dont think Hopkins could have finished it, Calzaghe has always had a good chin, didnt appear hurt and was the one coming forward making the action, getting put down dosent make someone chinny, Hopkins has been put down in his career, and hes also got a great chin

Had he gone in and thrown some punches, he could have finished it.:good Sadly he did not.....and we got a **** fight, which was won by Calslappy because Hopkins didn't fight.:huh

 

I agree it was an awful fight to watch, but Calzaghe was never nearly gone against Hopkins, I guess we wont agree on this one, but if Hopkins had come in throwing more I suspect he would have probably been caught by more against a faster combination puncher. Remember it was still Calzaghe coming after Hopkins straight away

 

american, as much as I hate to admit it, Calzaghe won.

And it annoys me because I think that if hopkins would have just opened up a bit more he could have won it. He was slipping calzaghe's shots and landed the better power shots but he let calzaghe outwork him.

Especially after seeing how good his stamina was in the pavlik fight

 

I am American and I had Calzaghe winning 8 rounds to 4.

 

If this were even remotely true(it isn't),then both Hopkins and Calzaghe suck because Hopkins lost 2 decisions to Jermaine Taylor years before the Calzaghe-Hopkins "fight".By the way,I'm a New Yorker that had Calzaghe winning by one point if I remember correctly.

 

Mate, you do not know what you're on about. :nut Yes, Calzaghe's edge of workrate, questionable as it was in it's actual effect, was wide enough that he took it by 3-5 rounds. Stick to MMA.

 

Calzaghe beat Hopkins, not doubt about it, and on top of that, Calzaghe fought Hopkins in America!
