Higher P4P: Carlos Zarate or Marco Antonio Barrera

    Skill set? They're both completely fighters, I'd say at their peaks they were both experts at what they wanted to do.

    Barrera has more top wins on his resume, and it's his adaptibility and depth that see him rank above Zarate in my mind.

    But Zarate's best wins match up fairly well with Barrera's really. I've already been over my thoughts on that division, and I think it was class in the time that Zarate dominated. Barrera's series of wins over Morales lift him above zarate IMO. As you say, if Zarate had come back and beaten Pintor decisively, then yeah, maybe that would elevate him a bit more.

    How I rank, as you know: who did they beat? How did they beat them? When did they beat them?

    Barrera had a few rough moments but made up for it.

    Zarate had a solid peak which tapered off after his first loss.

    Again, it's what you like, but I have Barrera.

    All fair points, and I'm not heavily arguing with anyone who ranks Zarate over Barrera, but it'd be nice to hear someone validate that pick with the key criteria's in mind. I don't see many people doing it, and I think it's because they can't. Truth be told, I feel a lot of older fighters are often favoured simply because of Nostalgia. I'm a Zarate fan, I think he brutalises Junior Jones at Bantamweight and probably even at 122lbs, but that's hardly at the forefront of my mind when I consider a 20 year career.

    Well I've exhausted myself on the subject. I hope my reasoning has been sufficient enough (I do after all agree with you here:lol:) maybe some of the other posters can give their reasoning, which will no doubt also be well-informed and interesting.
