I think the second round will be better than the first.

Froch v Kessler - Kessler will be more motivated and looking to make a statement against Froch, so it's likely he will put on a better performance. Froch doesn't have the movement or quickness to trouble Kessler the way Ward did, so he will eat leather on the way in. Froch is too arrogant and limited himself to do much other than wing leather at Kessler all night long and hope to break him down. Should be a good fight, and the best part is that at the end one of them has to lose.

Dirrell v Abraham - Dirrell knows he needs a win here to stay in it, and after losing to Froch he should know that he can't get it by fighting the same way he did in Nottingham and hoping for a decision. I expect Dirrell to settle down and throw more, which will make this a more exciting fight given that Abraham is a live wire that can cause serious damage if given half a chance.

Ward v Taylor - Can Ward follow up his performance against Kessler? Ward is not a devestating puncher and Taylor is a better boxer than Kessler. If Taylor is 100% mentally he could still make a fight of this. Likewise we'll get to see if Ward's win was a fluke based on Kessler being unmotivated, a bum, the headbutts, and what have you.

The tournament should be single elimination and involve 16 fighters. But any tournament is better than silly matchmaking and the sanctioning bodies' ideas of things.

 

agreed. especially with all prima donnas arguing about proper drug testing. to have six top fighters agree to fight each other with no rematch clause, and promoters having options on the winner or loser is a breath of fresh air.

All second round fights could be really exciting. Froch and Kessler are two good punchers who both are not that difficult to hit. Both have courage, so the possibility of a dull fight seems low.

Ward - Taylor may be a sad fight if Taylor gets beaten badly, but it good be good action from two fighters with fast hands.

Abraham - Dirrell could be boring if Dirrell decides to run again, because Abraham doesn't have the footwork to chase him. If Dirrell has some heart and common sense, he won't repeat his mistake from the Froch fight and whenever someone really tries to beat Abraham, there is excitement in the air. How often to you see fights at 168 where the statement that one punch can change everything is actually very true? Abraham's rare one - punch power adds an element of excitement to his fights that we don't see often below heavyweight.

 

Exactly I'm looking forward to round two.

I can honestly say I'm not 100% sure who will win either fight. Gonna be reall interesting.

 

Some Bute fans still have sand in their vaginas... to the 16(!) fighter single elimination... Who really thinks this could ever happen.. Seriously 16 fighters to agree to such a tourney.. it is quite an enigma that we have 6....
