Could it be argued that Duran vs Palomino was better than against Leonard

Palomino also seemed to give up on himself a little after the half-way point.

The question was.. Was Duran better in his fight against Palomino then he was in his fight against Leonard? Which was a more legendary win is irrelevant. So its really if Duran of June 1979 fought the Duran of June 1980 which would win?

I think Duran in June of 1979 was faster then he was in 1980, but he looked in better condition vs Leonard. So its a tough call. There is a real chance that Duran of 1979 was the better fighter.

Truly fantastic perfomances by Duran. He may have the best lead rights I've ever seen in boxing. Palomino's chin is something else. My god, the punches he took.

Thank you. I just read this guys post insinuating Jack Dempsey was scrawny and would be thrown around by today's heavyweights. Maybe he will go back to the lounge where he belongs.

JG i always got the sneaking feeling that Giudice either posts on here or at least reads this forum as he credits that source for the gym incident being John Garfield (who i presume he is meaning you)

The Duran that fought Palomino was the best Duran I ever saw.

I have not seen this fight yet but I have just ordered Duran's carrer set and I am looking forward to watching it.

Duran / Leonard is prob' my fave fight, both fighters were great that night.

no i do not think so. simply because of the fact that leonard is a better class of opponent then palomino. so in comparisin with that his performance against leonard was better

Palomino of 1979 was NOT close to being the Leonard of '80..... In fact, Palomino was not close to being Leonard even back in '76..........

Come 1979 / '80, it was guys like Duran, Leonard and Hearns who, in a strange way, made us forget about Palomino and Cuevas for a while.........

Duran's win over Leonard in Montreal was the crowning affair.......
