    to much emphasis on Calzaghe being stunned momentarily by Eubank me thinks. i think calzaghe punches in bunches before Benn gets off and then clinches to prevent Benn attacking

    After seeing Calzaghe decked and hurt (admittedly showing good recuperative powers) by lighter punchers than Benn, I think, after a shaky start, that once in a lifetime iteration of the Dark Destroyer rallies in the mid to late rounds to hand the Welshman a stoppage defeat.

    Benn looked a little slower against McClellan but his balance was good and he didn't waste punches. He was coming out of the crouch well with nice power shots and just did not let up, no matter what pain he was in in his face, hands, lungs, head and organs. He was great that night.

    Generally, I'd have to go with Benn in a brawl, but Calzaghe if Joe boxed him. Those quick Calzaghe hands peppering Benn's low head, he can't just stand and trade proper blows, though, not with Nigel.

    Calzaghe would beat most versions of Benn. However, Benn that night would have beaten any fighter in the World.

    you could be right, something tells me that Benn would play right into Joes hands, the myth that Joe gets hit with a lot of right hands is a little stale considering it came to the fore against counterpunchers more often than not ala Hopkins

    I agree. Benn late stoppage.

    Calzaghe never fought anyone as good as a prime Benn.

    Are we still beating this dead horse...

    Calzaghe was the more complete fighter imo. Superior hand speed and chin being the keys to victory. And we're talking about a prime Calzaghe with more power on his shots..not a 36 year old one with broken hands. What was Benn doing at that age? At 32 he was getting beat up by Malinga and Collins.

    Seems crowd pleasing fighters get overrated on here. Benn would have lost the McClellan fight if the clash of heads hadnt caused Geralds injury and subsequent retirement in the bout.

    Calzaghe is far from perfect and certainly lacks names on his record between Eubank and Lacy...but he would have had the beating of Benn.
