I agree with you on Mcguigan hes the first one that comes to mind when i think of suspect HOF fighters. Mostly everyone else is deserving though. Curtis Cokes is another borderline guy although he did go 2-1 with a great fighter like Luis Rodriguez. I liked Czyz but dont think he makes it id say if Mcguigan is the cutoff line then Bobby just misses it since Mcguigan was the better fighter.

Hold on a minute he was far from a bum, and I thought he had a good chin.

I recall rumors that Bobby wore handcuffs vs Hamsho to get his dad outta the hole.
Dunno, but he looked VERY tame in that fight.

I read somewhere that Ayala's pop told Czyz's father that they needed to keep the sons apart, or they would destroy each other.

r u kidding me. Hamsho kicked his ass. czyz was then offered the sibson fight and turned it down. he was basically run out of the mid. division. even duva was disgraced by it and gave up on him. there were no rumors he was ahndcuffed. thatn is a lie and bull****.

I liked him and his commentating. He seemed pretty honest in and out of the ring.

Bobby was a good fighter who, in all honesty, overachieved a little.

I knew Booby since the late 1970's and I consider him a good friend and he considers me a good friend as well. Just this past Sunday, I made the presentation to him at the Ring 8 affair. He told me that that was the 1st time that the speech on him was better then his. I will see him again next Thursday. I also made the presentation to Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin.

You can go to the Ring 8 web site to see all the pictures.

Hopefully no one takes this post off!

I think he had a DWI or something and that cost him his job. I enjoyed him as a commentator, too.

Bobby Czyz was one of my favorites as a teen growing up. My first look at Czyz came in November, '82 against a sesoned veteran in Mustafa Hamsho where Hamsho, "The Syrian Southpaw," used a ton of illegal maul like tactics to record his 10-round decision over a young undefeated Czyz. Bobby would rebound and eventually win his first of two-division world titles four years later.

Czyz vs Marvin "Pops" Johnson would've been one of the all time classics back in '87 had it come off given that both guys held a major belt in the 175lb division at the same time and it would've been a major unification battle. Czyz was the IBF Lightheavyweight champion and M.Johnson was the WBA Lightheavyweight champion. (Johnson overall was a 3-time World Lightheavyweight Champion and the only one so far to accomplish that feat.) Note: At the same time Tommy "HitMan" Hearns was actually the WBC Lightheavyweight Champ.

In an all out unforgettable unification clash between these two I would've gone with Czyz by a very narrow 15-round split decision victory over Johnson in a memorable matchup. But in other major matchups at 175 against Hearns, Michael Spinks, Matthew Saad Muhammad, Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, and even a catchweight version of Marvin Hagler coming in at a comfortable 165 Czyz would more than likely be on the receiving end but would no doubt go down brawling.

He was a good fighter, but not great. Overrated a bit because the media built him up. Does he deserve a Hall of Fame election? No. Everytime he fought someone better than average he lost. He wanted to fight Hearns when Hearns got old and worn out, yet Tommy would have always beaten Czyz because Hearns was greater and more experienced and actually did beat great fighters. Czyz barely fought great fighters except for Holyfield and Virgil HIll, who outboxed him at 175. As a matter of fact Bobby lost to Prince Charles, Virgil Hill and Dennis Andries at 175, all the guys who were champions at one time in 1987.

I remember he fought on the Hearns/Roldan undercard in 1987 against Prince Charles. He said that Roldan quitting against Hagler in 1984 was something he would never ever ever do.. Sort of putting down Roldan as a quitter. And then days later he quits on his stool with the same shut eye issue that Roldan quit with against Hagler. To make a point like that and then quit the same way didn't really make Bobby look too good. He was a solid fighter but only beat guys with flaws. If Bobby goes into the Hall I think Andries should go in also.
