What happened to Dominick Guinn?

Guinn was damn near 30 when he fought Barrett. I don't think he fought him too soon at all. Barrett was just the better fighter. Guinn had the physical talent but lacked the killer instinct.

 

I think Guinn thought too much in the ring. In a few of his fights, in particular the James Toney fight, he simply refused to throw punches. I think he wasted his talent.

 

He had good technique but very little aggression or hand speed. I think he made a couple of bucks, so I hope he retired and is having a good life.

 

I just don't think he was ever all that good as a total package from what I remember of him. No disrespect to him intended.

 

I'm still waiting for an Audley Harrison rematch.

 

He just fought some no-hoper on 12/12 and won 6 round round decision.

As for what happened to his career- he has Michael Moorer disease- he tends to forget that he is in the middle of a fight and coasts.

 

Guinn had the talent but not the drive to succeed.

I was one of the guys who supported him back then.

It was a great disappointment to see such a talented guy just be content to fight on the cruise control.

Guinn was simply too complacent as a fighter to hang with the big boys at the world class level.

 

Yet Michael Moorer is a 4-time world champion with a lot of knockouts.

 

I really liked Guinn he seems to of had no love of the sport though i watched so many of his fights where it seemed ike he didnt care.

 

He just faded after several setbacks.

He is bulding himself back up now and while a W over Gabe Brown doesn't impress that slight upset fast KO over Bergeron was impressive.

 

:good Cruise control is the best way to describe Guinn.

He had some power, ok hand speed, and a great chin, but apparently either had terrible stamina or just some mental block.

 

I met Guinn and his trainer Ronnie Shields when he fought in my hometown of Rochester, New York. He was at the weigh in for his fight with Zuri Lawrence. I personally told him he could do great things if he let his hands go. Shields went crazy in agreement and kept repeating that he has been drilling that into Dominick's head. He later went out to smoke Lawrence in under 2 rounds.

He had so much potential when he put his mind to being busy in the ring...and it showed, especially when he fought Michael Grant and Lawrence. He had a solid chin in that he never was dropped or badly hurt. The only thing holding him back was that drive to want it and pick the tempo up when the guy wouldn't just simply go away.

 

He wasn't as good as everyone was hoping for.



Guinn was a B level fighter at best. Everyone had high hopes for him, but he just didn't have the aggressive fighter mentality when in against tough competition.
