Thanks :good Reason why I don't have Froch as number 1 is due to the Dirrell fight really, I mean he was expected to walk over the guy yet he only just got the victory (which many thought Dirrell deserved). Khan is number 1 for me due to how he dominated every opponent (one of them was world class, one of them use to be world class a long time ago) and you could make a case for him not having lost a round at all this year (same for Booth who I picked as 2nd). Rhodes and Haye just had the one meaningful fight, so I felt I couldn't put them above Khan who has had 3 fights (overall all at a decent level), Booth who has had 3 fights (domestic level, but he was the smaller man in each fight and dominated everyone) and Froch who has had 2 fights (both world class opponents, although Dirrell may not have been considered that before the Froch fight). :good
Im really tempted to go for Rhodes or Booth, but for level of opponent and the way in which he dealt with them it has to be King Khan.
If McCloskey had beaten M'baye and not that unknown Spaniard then he may have had a case and I already explained why Booth is 2nd.
The three names that came immediately to mind were Rhodes, Khan and Froch. Khan probably has the best shout at the moment. Haye did win a heavyweight belt so has to be given a mention, but it just seems a bit like the Europa league winner calling themselves the champions of Europe, yeah you've won a trophy, kudos for doing so but the real big boys are still out there...
I think Haye's year is pretty overrated. It was great him winning the title and all, beating a 7 foot giant etc, but other fighters have excelled more - glad Booth got a mention.
My vote would go to Jason Booth aswell, put in some cracking performances this year. My vote for 2nd would probably be Froch then 3rd would be Amir Khan.
And why not Khan? Are you upset that he bypassed all the eliminators that less popular fighters need to fight in to get a title shot?
I never thought i'd see Mathew Hatton in a best of 2009 list! I'd sub him out for Fury but that aside good list.
1. Amir Khan 2. David Haye... the new heavyweight champion! lets not forget he broke his hand early and still managed to make him do a dance.... no heavyweight has ever did that have they? 3. Ryan Rhodes 4. Kevin Mitchell 5. Carl Froch.... he's still a world champion afterall, and although he lacks skill and speed opposed to the other world champions fom this country you have to admire the way he came back and wore down Taylor and stopped him in his first fight in America.
