Is boxing more popular in Germany than America?

In terms of ratings yes. All fights are shown on German free TV, which attracts lots of casual fans. But there is not much hardcore boxing fans who have a deep understanding of the game.

 

one thing that is funny is that there arent really any good german fighters. the klitschkos are ukrainian, abraham is armenian, huck is bosnian, robert stieglitz is russian etc etc I could go on and on. yet the krauts love to claim all those as their own.

yes boxing is very popular in germany... which is very strange considering their lack of good fighters...

 

I think its a good thing too. You have to root for someone right, all things being equal, why not root for someone who lives/trains/comes from where you are from. Here in the US, boxing doesnt get much coverage with the exception of the big fights. On the depth chart of sports, boxing is somewhere in the 7,8 or 9 range in terms of popularity now. Everyone is aware of the big, big fights, but ask them who a Chad Dawson or a Timothy Bradley is and, unless they are fringe boxing fans at least, they'll have no idea. And there really isn't much of a home field advantage in the US, its probably more regional than national. (By state or general region) If anything, the guy with the higher revenue ceiling will have the "home field" advantage, but I guess that is can be considered true for anyplace.

It is..... but in America, fans have a better understabding of the sport in general. That's just the impression I get.

is it on free tv every where in the world but america? i remember studying in china a few years ago and seeing dlh-vargas on tv which is a ppv event. and in the phillipines i heard everyone has access to see pac fight.

Agree with your observation. Boxing is not mainstream anymore here. Latinos and Asian fans are what make boxing alive in America.
