Mikkel kessler has just announced that he has broken with his life long coach richard olsen. New man is jimmy Montoya who kessler knows well. There is no bad blood between kessler and ricard olsen. The decision was inevitable and hopefully this will provide kessler with the motivation and will to get up for the last part of his career with a good ending. No one wants to see kessler like in the ward fight again... I believe this was a good decisions for mikkel. He will beat froch....then we will see what happens in the 3 fight.... im one of those who hope jermain taylor stays in... but i have allways liked him alot for the guy he is... and i believe he will beat ward the 17 april.... maybe not so realistic some will say but jermain is a class act in and outside the ring and deserves respect..... but dont want to see him in anymore bad KO´s
I know that montoya has worked in Kesslers corner before but does anyone know anything about him? Is he known in the states?
I don't know much about Jimmy Montoya. But I do think that getting a new coach is a vital step for Mikkel. It seems to me, that his team was incapable of devising more effective tactics against boxers who did not fight like a textbook. Nothing was learned from the defeat against Calzaghe. AFAIK, Mikkel has also added a mental coach to his team. I hope this will breathe new life into Kessler career, which effectively have been stalled since his defeat against Calzaghe.
Jimmy Montoya has been a top trainer in the USA for decades. Very experienced and should be good for Kessler.
It seems that there is quite some tension between Mikkel Kessler and his former trainer. According to latest stories in danish press, the former trainer complains that Kessler is "impossible to train" because he is always injured or because he is elsewhere. In fact, he says that it is not possible for him to make demands of Kessler. He also generally complains, that Kessler does not listen to him. It is hard to discern, whether this is the truth, complaints from a disgruntled trainer or a story (partially) made up by the tabloid press. If there is any truth to this story however, it sounds like Kessler really needs a trainer who can kick his ass.
Kessler is a idiot, if he wouldn't have spent 2 years inactive he would have gone forward.. the guy has been going backwards since the Calzaghe fight.
Management problems (with Team Palle) has been part of the reason for his inactivity, however. But I totally agree, that his career has been going backwards since Calzaghe.
Jimmy Montoya is an unknown capacity for me. Does anybody know whether he will be any good for Kessler? Ps. I know he has trained Kessler before.
I dont know this new trainer of Kesslers at all. But change can be good. I think if this trainer can get Kessler to fight more on the inside & throw more combinations it would improve him as a fighter. Sometimes he seems to upright and square on, so if this changes it could also be good. But im no more than an armchair fan, so I could be very wrong
