When was the last time Pac compromised to get a fight done????? He has a reputation as being a warrior who fights everyone... Yet if you look at his recent fights, he wont fight anyone unless he gets his way. When was the last time he made a compromise to actually get a fight done? He wanted Hoya to pay 3 mil per lbs over 147. He got it. Though Hoya never came in overweight for any of his fights. Concessions made by Pac in this fight? None. He wanted fight in Vegas against Hatton. He got it. He wanted 52-48, saying he would pull out if it was 50-50. He got it. Mind you, he was gonna pull out over 2 PERCENT !!! Concessions made by Pac? None. He wanted Cotto at 143. Got 145. He wanted to fight for his titles. Got that too. Wanted bigger purse, got that as well. Cotto's own promoter sold him out to Pac. Concessions made by Pac in this fight? None. He wanted Floyd to pay 10 mil per lbs over 147. Got that. Concessions from Pac so far in this negotiations? None. So for his last 4 big matchups, all I see is that if he doesnt get everything he wants at the negotiating table, he wont accept to fight. He asked to compromise, and they did, but he wont. Sorry but thats not a warrior to me. Thats not putting the fans first. Thats not putting the sport first. Lets be real. If Im wrong about any of the negotiations and concessions he might have made, please bring them up.
freddyscreens pacs opponants very well. All pacs way or no fight.Good post.catchweights, glove size, ring size.Purse split.Last real threat that he foughtwas Jaun Manuel Marquez who he made wait four years for a rematch.Took David Diaz the most beatable at lightweight.Cotto at 145,Hoya at 147.Cant have it all his way with Mayweather he runs crying to court. If the steroid allegations are not true take the test and make the fight.
You're a joke. Cotto wasn't a threat? Even at 147, the outcome would have been the same. Ellerbe screens Mayweather's fights twice as good. Bring them up a division or two, or just choose supremely outwitted, outmatched opponents.
Truth of the matter is, what the **** do we, fans on a boxing forum know about what is negotiated, what is contracted, except what the media spits out to us? A fight against Hatton in Vegas? Where the hell else would he fight? The UK? 52/48 split? Did you see the outcome of the fight? I think 48 was more than deserved for the time and work Hatton put in. I doubt anyone, Hatton himself would even disagree. The Cotto fight I would've loved to see it at 147, but even with Cotto's last fight, he came in vs. Clottey at 146 so anyone trying to use that dried out, dried up bull**** excuse is a lame one at that. I'll give "drying out" more merit to DLH, than Cotto. How can you honestly say he hasn't made any concessions? The per-pound penalty...come on seriously? Who the hell in their right minds would even think Mayweather would come in above 147? It's mere formality. The $10 million per pound penalty was made in response to the olympic-style drug testing that was never in the original contract (as ESPN stated) If the sequence of events are correct, Mayweather first signed off on the contract. Arum flew to the Philippines and had Pacquiao sign the contract, none of which contained anything about blood testing. ESPN then reported that random blood-testing was then added to the contract. I'm not a negotiator, but I'm fairly sure you don't start negotiating with your final two venues without having major issues hashed out.
1st. Hatton wanted to bring the fight to the UK. Pac wanted it in Vegas. He got it. Hatton wanted 50/50, Pac said I will walk away unless I get more then 50%. He got 52%. How the fight went down has no relevance since we are talking about negotiations BEFORE THE FIGHT. 2nd. Pac got Cotto to give in on purse split, weight, and his title. What did Pac give in on? Not a single thing. Again, my argument isnt about how 145 weakened him, its about how Pac never makes any concessions in any of his fights. 3rd. You are trying to change the issues, first of all, and misinformed about the 10 mil per lbs. It wasnt in response to the drug testing. It came up way before that, and Floyd had no issue with it, he agreed to it. Check your timeline better sir. And with all this said you could not name me the last time you remember Pac making any concessions at the table so that a fight can get made. Hmmm... Its true that we dont hear everything about negotiations. But how is it that its simple for me to find all kinds of requests that Pac made that his opponents agreed to, all kinds of threats he made about pulling out of fights, but we cant find any info on him making any concessions at all???
You just made that dudes head a toilet bowl. In other American sports Pac would be referred to as a diva. Floyd is far from it b/c he conceded to other people's stipulations rather than bring his own. I never heard of Floyd requiring Baldomir to a rehydration clause or any other fighter were he was on the A side.
Pac wanted n got 50/50 of the UK PPVs also. Its funny cos everyone thinks Floyd is obsessed with money but in actual fact its Pac whose obsessed with it moreso than Floyd.
I think it's safe to say in regards to Cotto giving up more on the purse split, he was clearly not the draw in the bout. Pacquiao was riding a high coming off wins over DLH and the KO of the year in Hatton. The Clottey fight was tough for him and showed adversity, but it wasn't a dominant performance. I think it's evident that Pac was the bigger draw in the bout. I disagree with the timeline of events. I remember pretty distinctly that the mention of blood-testing was brought up before the ridiculous $10m penalty. I'll try to find the couple articles I read which basically had something to the tune of , "In response to the olympic-style blood testing...yada yada yada."
Pac's whose more obssessed with Money? LOL. More obsessed than the man who NICKNAMED himself Money? :happy
That phrase was created by 2nd hand hearsay from an anonymous source that was posted on a different boxing fan forum site which, of course, was regurgitated on ESB as gospel.
Pac wanted 50% of the UK sales also? Damn its worse then I thought. Look, I have nothing personally against Pac. But all Im saying is other boxers went the extra mile on his demands because they wanted to get the fights made. Thats just the facts. Why cant he do the same? Since it looks like he is unwilling to do the same, he cant keep the same rep he has right now. Its just a fake.
145 welterweight title fight... limit is 147. If you want the title, take it under the rules of boxing *****.
Very good post, with alot of good points. When someone is a fan favourite we often forget details like you mentioned, or they get selectively forgotten. It would be interesting to have concrete info on all this. If the fight with Y Foreman happens it would be interesting to know if any stipulations are made there
I went on google too and see what you mean about it being in response, though that was just what some writers suspected. However, Floyd still agreed to that stipulation in the contract. So you still have a case where Pac refuses to compromise while he asks his opponents to do it for him. You said Pac does make concessions. Which ones did he make?
