Interesting ratings and sure to be controvercial.

I would rate Louis higher and Ali, Johnson I would rate lower but I can not argue, I think they are good ratings. Michael Spinks high for me but I see you have Holmes up there. I really do not think anyone can argue with you and your ratings are in line with many of the so-called boxing experts that are used as references

    I stopped at #1.

Though you're obviously a big fan, I don't see how he could possibly be above Ali.

Dempsey at #2 just made things a whole lot worse.

Numbers 1 and 2 are a bit controversial.

Bowe, Tunney and Holyfield above Frazier?

usually 4 and 5 are the top 2.

I'll let others breakdown the list throughly.

    oh and Welcome buddy. :thumbsup

Jack Johnson was a terrible heavyweight champion. His most "dangerous" foe was a completely emasculated, vastly-overrated Jeffries. The rest were dubious defenses against middleweights, soft punching light-heavies, sparring partners and getting beat by one of the crudest heavyweight champs ever. Meanwhile, he ducked the most dangerous fighters available. If you are rating champions here, he belongs well low on the list.

Seamus, you're correct to say that Johnson's title competition was guff, it was, but I think that looking at the list the OP has decided to rate the HW champs based upon their entire careers - otherwise, as you say Johnson at #3 is inexplicable, but so is Demspey at #3.

    So i'm presuming that's what he's done.

But if ever a thread needed clarification it's this one.

Riddick Bowe above Joe Frazier is one of the craziest things I have ever seen on the Classic...and RedRooster camps out here.

Bowe above Frazier is inexplicable irrespective of criteria.

    I've seen worse first threads.

What about head to head? That's basically based upon opinion...what if this guy has produced an intricate head to head list and he has Frazier suffering L's against all the punchers on the list? You know Mendoza does  Bowe, meanwhile, does a little better...of course, that means he got Marciano doing better against the field than Muhammad Ali...
