Rashad's takedowns looked very good in this fight. He fought the perfect gameplan - until that right hand caught him in the third round. It looked like Thiago was going to take Evans out - but he was too gassed to press the advantage. I prefer to see a good submission myself - but I give Rashad full credit for the power behind some of those take-downs. He sent Silva down hard several times. Rashad went back to his wrestling and it paid off. I still don't think Evans beats Lyoto Machida in a rematch - but he will put up a more competitive fight.
Evans won rounds 1 and 2 clearly. Silva won round 3 but it was not a 10-8 at all. 2-1 Evans. Good win for him.
Dissapointed with the main event.....And the whole card to be honest.. Though its clear De santos and Daley are the real deal.. Only got a month til UFC is down under...Quality card to... Nog to sub Vasquez late.. Cro cop to find his headkick and lay Rothwell out... And my man the axemurder to shattered Bispings jaw in what should be a great fight.. Cant wait..
Well strategized, but poor win. If that's the sort of game plan Rashad has to use to win a fight, I'll just look for John Ruiz fights and watch those instead. He went away from his elated and exaggerated head feints and fist pumps to kill time on the ground takedowns, he got dropped. If a takedown is worth so much on the scorecard, then the stuffing of one should be worth just as much.. If you know what you are doing and stuff a takedown in a real fight, you can simply drop knees on a guys head from with the opponent in a helpless position, pretty much can kill someone that way.
Come on mate. The guy was bombing away like Mike Tyson in the first 2 rounds. He was setting up powerful takedowns too. I think Rashad fought well. I'd like to see him do more work when on top but I think the reason he didn't is because Silva was working to get up.
I expect more from him, or a change in the way scoring goes. A wrestler takes a guy down, I expect him to maul the crap out of the guy or go for submissions, rather than counter the opponents attempts to get back to his feet and do absolutely no damage at all. Matt Hughes in his right mind would be talking **** about this performance. I think all mma fighters with wrestling backgrounds should strive to be more like Hughes, and if they have some power in their hands, then go ahead and try and be a little more like Hendo. What Rashad pulled in there was exactly what Hughes criticized him about in tuf. If he just takes him down to hold him down, its really no different than watching a John Ruiz jab and grab. As it would be one thing if a boxer jabbed to get inside to set up punches to the body.. But, instead the boxer jabs and scores, then ties the opponent up to kill time, prevent his opponent from scoring, and ultimately win the fight by controlling and creating a lack of action. Its like rationing damage. The parallel is there, and it's pretty sorry. Rashad isn't the first fighter to do this, and tbh its an excellent way to win a fight without putting yourself at risk. But, its still ugly as hell. He shames the name Sugar.. He is back to Molasses to me.
I agree but I think because Silva was trying to get up, Evans had to hold him down. Attempting moves when he hasn't properly got him down yet would simply give him the opportunity to get back up and that isn't what Evans wanted as proven by how dangerous Silva was in the third. I think Rashad utilised the boxing and wrestling well. He has yet to show a top BJJ game but he is now a black belt so he should have it. Evans can still grow as a fighter. The boxing he used to set up take downs was not parallel to a Ruiz jab.
I can't believe how close he was and how much he pissed around. What an absolute idiot. Tough cookie to finish though.
