Hopkins always works in the clinch. He was working Calzaghe in the clinch. Post a vid where he wasnt.

Hatton was coming forward the same way he did in the 1st round. Only difference was Mayweathers constant strafing lead rights were starting to break Hatton down. Watch the 7th round of the fight. Hatton came out pissed, Cortez let them clinch, Mayweather worked him up, then opened up on him with combinations.

You can blame Cortez all you want, but Mayweather was just a superior fighter on the inside. And Hopkins is a far better clincher in that he can disguise what he's trying to do, more cagey so to speak.

If Cortez wanted to screw Calzaghe, he could have deducted a point for the multiple low blows he landed on Hopkins

As you can see when Hopkins clinches, it is usually after throwing a punch, and usually its with the opposite hand so Cortez cant see it. Hatton on the other hand wrestles, pushes and mauls. Hopkins most of the time grabs your opposite glove then his you with the other. Usually away from the refs site.

Again you're looking for something that really aint there.

The low blows were clearly on Hopkins cup. He may have milked it a little longer then necesary, but they were clearly intentional low blows.

Probably because of Hattons reputation. Notably the Tzsyu fight where he got raped. Hatton just isnt cagey with his clinching. Infact its not clinching like how Gene Tunny and Hopkins employ, its mauling.

Hmmmmm,good question.While we're on it,I have a couple of questions,too.Why did Dave Parriss allow Hatton to constantly mug,hold and hit Kostya Tsyzu and then punch Kostya in the gonads after Kostya finally responded?I mean for example in the 6th round,Hatton cuffed Kostya behind the head while he threw about 6 consecutive punches to Kostya's head and Parriss did nothing about it.Another question.Why did Dave Parriss ref the first Rogan-Sexton bout the way he did?One more question.Why wasn't the Barrera-Khan stopped in the 2nd rather than the 6th and called a no-contest when it was obvious that Barrera was bleeding profusely in the second due to a butt?Who was the ref in that one?Dave Parriss.Hmmmm.

 

Cortez was very biased in those teo fights.. Hatton loses regardless but it was deffinately one sided Refereeing. Another ref who can get rediculous is Jay nady anyone remember Rachman Maskaev 2.. Even the hbo crew was telling him to shutt up and let them fight.

 

Tzyu got the shitt end of the stick that night thats for sure, as well as the froch Dirrell if your gona take a point for holding why the hell not for repeated rabbit punching? Every country prob has refs they like to use for those reasons.

The damage was done in the first half of the fight with his inept refereeing.

 

You could put it down to national bias. Though maybe he realised he did a terrible job in the Hatton fight and was more lenient for the Hopkins/Calzaghe fight.

Who knows? It's just a shame he spoiled Hatton/Mayweather. He was awful.

Thankfully, he doesn't get as much work now.
