The WBA has ordered this fight to happen. Whats your thoughts on it. Personally I think its a fight Khan should take. He would get alot of respect from the US (which he seems obsessed with), HBO would take it and it would be an attractive fight. If he ducks it and gives up his title it would proove he is just a paper champion who took an easy route to the title.
I am a big fan of Khan's and his attitude and think he will take this fight but if I am brutally honest, I also think he gets sparked. Maidana connected enough with Kotelnik and Ortiz who both have better defences than Khan to trouble them immensely. 3 or 4 clean punches on Khan's chin and it has to be over for me, I really really hope I am wrong and Khan schools him but sooner or later I see the Argie getting through.
I think Khan will want to take this. HBO are up for this fight and I personally believe Khan has the beating of fighters like Maidana. As long as it's a disciplined performance. Khan wont engage with Maidana and I reckon he'd eventually break his man down before taking a wide ud. I reckon he'll want this fight but I don't Frank Warren will be overly keen. Warren seems keen on Khan doing a football stadium show or two before hitting the States.
Khan CAN win this. Maidana is outmanouverable and can be hurt. With Khans speed and half-decent power, plus his fast feet and improved defence, he can win, either on points or a stoppage at some point by overwhelming him. Maidana is not a great offensive fighter; he's wild. However, because of his tenacity he is somewhat unpredictable; there's a chance he will land some big shots on Khan. Also, he is fairly relentless, and has proved that when being outboxed (Kotelnik at times; close fight that was) or outfought (Ortiz at times) he can come back and be dangerous as soon as he's on two feet. This is a perfect fight for Khan. What's the point in improving your defence and winning a World title if you're going to defend against feather fists and duck your mandatory??? If he gives up the belt, it will show that either he, Warren or Roach doesn't have the faith in him. Personally I feel he can win. Khan has a lot of confidence and I think he would like to take it. It's very, very frustrating. Thing is, Khan will get support if he 'ducks' Maidana nonetheless. It's seems to me that if they do duck him (it hasn't happened yet don't forget) that it will show they are trying to delay the inevitable and make as much cash out of him as possible. Bad chin aside, he's a gifted young athlete; he should be taking on the best fights available. Maidana is a PERFECT fight for Khan. A better fighter than Prescott, it will truly prove that Khan can face an awkward puncher.
Ortiz has no defence. Not in that fight anyway. Whilst Kotelnik has a good ear muff defence, he has slow feet and prefers to cover up then move in and out. Keeping Maidana at mid-range and skipping out of range as he unloads his bombs is how Khan should approach this. Kotelnik was not capable of doing so.
khan could wi this ,and if hbo are intrested then it would be perfect fight for him in america as the madena is known over there .
:huh Also, Kotelnik has a much different defensive style to Khan - where Kotelnik will stand there with his hands up, Khan moves in and out quickly and limits the risk as much as possible (he wouldn't be able to do what Kotelnik does). I have always fancied Maidana in this one, but credit to Khan if he does take the fight.
If Roach is serious about Khan winning titles all the way up to light middle/middleweight then he has to take this fight. If he can't take on and beat a raw banger at this stage of his career, then he has no chance against the best at 140, let alone anybody in higher weights.
Doubt he'll achieve much, lacks the intangibles. Khan's further along in his career anyway. Ortiz is now where Khan was at around the time of the Prescott fight. Khan's had his wake up call and now should be beating guys like Maidana.
hard to see khan making it out in this 1 without getting streched, but i'll respect him if he takes the fight and proves me wrong, if khan doesnt take the fight and fights some1 with less power it shows how much confiedence if any roach has in khan
I always put this fight down to Maidana's ability to cut the ring off both fights i have seen him in Ortiz & Kotelnik they have stood in front of him and let him fire off his shots. Maidana will have to work to find Khan and when he does Khan is going to be out of there quick and he will have to start it again. No doubt in my mind Maidana will be chasing Khan down from start to finish but his long wide shots might not be quick enough to hold Khan down. In my opinion this is the best fight that Khan can take at 140. Maidana isn't as skilled as the top fighters he has a strong punch and great determination but he is slow and from my knowledge not a smart pressure fighter two things that play into Khans style. Should be a decent fight if it comes off.
Khan was smashed to pieces agaisnt prescott and was still trying to get up and wanted to fight on. He has heart. Ortiz hasn't. you will never see Khan quitting like Ortiz did.
He said Khan was further ahead in his career when Ortiz when he lost to Prescott. Not true. Read what I quoted please:good
