calzaghe v hopkins - different refereeing?

    if cortez referee'd the calzaghe fight with the same refereeing principles as the floyd - hatton fight, would hopkins have made it out for the 12th round?

    i think hopkins would have been stopped. he would have gassed if he wasn't allowed to hold and feign low blows. a past his prime calzaghe would have tko'd hopkins with a series of slaps.

    think of a gassed hopkins pretendin he'd been hit in the nuts. then picture hopkins without a biased ref on his side not letting him hold whilst a series of 30 slaps come in from an over the hill calzaghe.

    end result - calzaghe stops hopkins round 11 :deal

    I cringe when I see that ****. Those flurries really bamboozled the crowd, that one in particular brought a loud response which clearly swayed the judges.

    Despite the fact that those crappy, ineffectual punches failed to land and the final right hand nearly dropped him, all 3 judges awarded Calzaghe that round. Interesting microcosm for the fight itself.

    It was the second low blow. Hopkins was looking for a point deduction. He was not hurt by the slap attack.

    hopkins fought a slapper but all he wanted to do was hold. there must be a reason for that?

    you can blame it on age?


    or you can blame it on the fact that if hopkins fought toe to toe for a period of time, he knew he would get stopped.

    either way, well done joe cortez, you nearly got a decision for the american fighter.

    Calzaghe probably has the worst stoppages in boxing history. also reference the Manfredo fight where Calzaghe missed eveyrthing in the ring but the referee. My guess is the ref doesnt like to see grown men slapped around so they take mercy and stop it.
