the problem is Paddy- showing American fights means the sponsors of said fights have the ring, the announcer, back drops etc. So getting fresh Irish sponsors is hard...Setanta hopefully will become a great place for boxing but look they are showing 15 episodes of 1980 top gear a day at present that cost around--350 euro a pop thats how broke they are!!!

Any Irish fights that setanta show the promoter has to pay to film themselves!!! thats our only hope this year if they then get big audiences well then hopefully they will decide to pay a few bob and get us some fights..

why dnt we all set up a boxing network!!!

Tommy Egan Promotions Television Deal with Setanta Sports

Tommy Egan Promotions’ bid to bring Irish domestic boxing to the next level has taken a significant leap forward as the Irish promoter has entered talks with Setanta Sports Ireland to broadcast a City West hosted fight night. Legendary boxing pundit Steve Bunce will host the event, which will take place on Saturday April 17th. Headlining the night is the Irish Light Middleweight Title clash between champion Neil Sinclair of Belfast and New York based Arklow native James Moore..

If you watch sky some of their tv shows have sponsors before and after the ad break they dont need product placement all over the show itself

Buying a time delayed fight is an aweful lot cheaper than doing a live fight

on FNF they have "friday night fights is brought to you by nivia for men" have you ever seen nivia for men on the backdrop or on the ring they dont even have an announcer saying it its a voice over no reason why you can do up a simple graphic with a voice over. If people are watching the boxing the advertisers will pay for it.

The problem for Setanta it I doubt they get very many subscribers anymore.
Maybe those into Rugby who still have a bit of cash to spare still get it but the average Joe does not. Their viewership is maintained through the deals with the Chorus/NTL platforms.

They are going to be losing Magners League matches from next season as far as I'm aware and the Premier League football I think too so that could pretty much get rid of all those subscribing through Sky. From then on they may aswell go Free-to-air and try and as many people watching as possible and bring in as much from advertisement revenue as they can.

Get themselves onto the Irish equivalent to freeview which should be coming anytime in the next century. Only then will they really be able to start competing in the Sports broadcasting market again. As it is they struggle to survive, slowly losing subscribers while maintaining low cost programmes.

Fortunately boxing can be part of their low cost programmes, buying in FFN's from America and showing them as live should be quite cheap and as Paddy says if they can get a sponsor for the programme they may be able to cover the cost of showing Friday Night Fights through that alone.

They can't spend massively on domestic cards, but if they work closely with Irish promoters like Tommy Egan I'm sure a fair agreement between the two can be made to show cards in Ireland and Egan and other promoters could still get a better deal than he did with TV3.

While the return of Buncey is an exciting development, Egan believes it is just a part of what will prove to be a sensational overall fight night package.

“We are delighted to be working with Steve Bunce and Setanta Sports. Steve is a huge name in boxing
    This content is protected
and he is second to none in terms of boxing commentary and knowledge. Steve will bring something extra to the televised show and we are thrilled to be the first Irish boxing promoters to have him for a fight night since the popular ‘Bring Back Bunce’ campaign was launched,” he said.

“I am promising Irish fight fans a strong card. I am going to make fights that will excite the live and TV audience. Having Setanta involved will also be great for Irish fighters. They will have a platform to display their skills to a wider audience. The link between Tommy Egan Promotions, Banner Promotions, Freddie Roach and Steve Feder means that the fighters could really progress their careers Stateside,” Egan explained before revealing this show will not be a once off.

“This will be the first of many quality Irish cards to be televised. Tommy Egan Promotions will make the Irish Title prestigious once more and will give Irish fight fans quality cards on a regular basis.

A step forward for Irish boxing again. It is huge over here and hopefully Setanta Ireland are in it for the long term. Most people seem to think Setanta Ireland are in the **** money wise but they were always a different company to Setanta UK. They done seperate deals for the football coverage they show and F1 and the other sports. Yes they show a lot of fillers during the weeks but if they are saving money that way and are pumping money into boxing then there must be money there we dont know about.
They only done a new deal for the Saturday 3 kick offs for the priemer league so they have that for the next 4 years so I cant see them going anywere just yet.
