It was close but the right guy won, end of.

Hopkins could have been given the win, we have seen much worse in boxing - but it would have been the wrong result.

Cortez never even warned Calzaghe for hitting with the inside of the glove.

Calzaghe sure did slap a brutal cut on Roy Jones' face, my favorite fighter.

Those slaps everyone talks about has to mean something, the guy is undefeated.

Jeez, Cobbler, I usually like talking Hopkins/Calzaghe with you... He wasn't hit low?

C'mon mate, let's keep it proper...

This is why I say that gif is a good microcosm for the fight itself.

    * Calzaghe, the more active guy, throws a largely ineffectual flurry.

    * Headbutt!

    * Hopkins lands a right that staggers & nearly drops Calzaghe. Watch the fight again in real time, the punch lands on the chin and nearly drops him.

Those closing seconds of round 7 pretty much summed the fight up for me. Calzaghe was busier, Hopkins more effective when he landed, and a bit of classic-Hops dirty boxing. The only thing that isn't in there is a clear and decisively low shot from Calzaghe, but not to the balls. He did it at least twice.

Total Bullcrap Cortez let Calzaghe get away with murder. That was a blatent low blow plus the attempted sexual assault that followed Calimari Calzaghe should have at least had a point deducted. Add to that 95 % of his blows were illegal slaps Not one single warning
A 100% fit Hopkins Ko's Calimari every day that has a Y in it

    ^word.

And as to the original question, another ref would have made for a much better fight, though I didn't think Cortez did nearly as terribly as he's capable of.

And for that clip that DanRand posted...the Hopkins headbutt caught my eye more than Joe's three little slaps.

    P.S.
Can we have a thread to take a poll as to whether or not Danny Rand is actually Scott Gilfoid? I just get that feeling...

That punch was nowhere near to dropping calzaghe. the only time he got wobbled was when he was dropped. your trying to stir and you know it. the result stands and in my opinion, the correct one (just). Calzaghe did throw a lot of wild shots but there is video evidence (the fight itself not a 5 second clip) to show he did land some effective punching when nard wasnt spoiling. ugly fight.

Which guy came in head first in that exchange (while wheeling punches over the top of his head, mind you)? It wasn't Hopkins.

It does make me cringe when i see him punching and its part of the reason I never enjoyed watching him. In that video clip the biggest blows comes from when B Hop headbutts Joe who's gay slaps flail at the air. I think it may have just been **** coaching though, Calzaghe had greagt speed and an appreciation of distance but it looked like he hadnt been taught the basics of punch technique lol.

God, **** I love how weekend warriors who have never boxed like to pass judgement on a boxer with the history and legacy of Calzaghe.

    Boxing Lesson 101:

    The Feint.

Throwing leather in a way that distracts your opponent in order to set up another punch that you're looking to land.

Review said tape above, Joe has the leather going in the air to distract Hopkins, when he believes he spies an opening, he throws a heavy left hand, Hopkins is too good on defense, watches the feints go past and then tucks his chin in to avoid the shot, causing a headbutt to occur and then rolls off with the right.

Joe's feints however worked several times throughout the night, where he was able to land on B-Hop. Any ****er who doesn't understand what that is about needs to just **** off from the forums.

Yeah, quite funny that Calzaghe was a 37 yr old who was being talked about as shot as early as 2002-2003 owing to his hands and stamina issues too, right?

    ****ing chump.
