FMJ vs sweet pea at 147 who wins?

The only time Floyd is in boring fights is when his opponent cant deal with his speed, Whitaker would be fine. This fight IMO would be a good one.

 

I agree with you.... We would see some amazing displays of masterful boxing technique in this one. I don't understand why people think fighters have to throw 100 punches a round to not be boring. I love a chess match.

Would be one of the greatest pure boxing matches of all time. Both guys could do it all, particularly at lower weights. As said before, at 135lbs this fight would REALLY look spectacular.

 

Yeah, nobodies "glass jaw" would be shattered in this one. Real boxing fans care about more than "glass jaws"

I would love to see how this would unfold, it would be a total chess match and I like those too. There is more to boxing than just standing in front of someone swinging away to see who falls first.

 

Whitaker was just flat out better than Mayweather. The jab, lefty stance, better workrate, infighting, etc would see him to a very clear decision in a tactical fight.

Not really. Pea was the better infighter, had a better jab, a higher workrate, a more proven D against better opponents, and his southpaw stance would create problems for Mayweather. He was also a better body puncher. FLoyd might have advantages in handspeed and punching power, although thats debatable because Pea had some awesome KOs against good fighters.

It would be competitive imo with a clear winner

 

A boring fight for sure. I'd take Whitaker by decision, he was just a little bit better at everything than lil Floyd. Plus Whitaker was ready to take some risks and press the action when he had to, FMJ won't do that.

I think he showed his power in flashes to be at least as good as Floyd's. I've never seen Floyd brutally stop anyone like Whitaker did Hurtado, nor have I seen one punch KO's from him like the ones Whitaker put on Lomeli and Nazario. The Hatton stoppage was by far his most impressive as far as tide turning shots go. Floyd commits more to his punches than Whitaker did, but only because of his far inferior workrate. When he throws a power punch it's almost strictly as a counter, and almost always one at a time, which allow him to put more leverage into his blows. Whitaker had a much higher workrate where he was for the most part just looking to out-box and out-land his opponents, but when he sat down on his punches he could devastate you.

For overall punching power I'd say they were about even, just different stylistically from a punching perspective.

 

He was better defensively, but he certainly wasn't "more defensive". Floyd's workrate is among the lowest ever for such a highly regarded fighter, whereas Pea's was one of the highest ever.
