Dawson is WBC mandatory and he is suppose to fight Jean Pascal. Problem is Pascal is having surgery on a dislocated shoulder and broken collar bone. The fight is expected to be in June but I don't think Pascal will recover by June. Then there is Tavoris Cloud. Dawson doesn't want anything to do with Cloud because he's IBF champion. IBF has some extremely ****ed up rules, and Dawson isn't touching the IBF belt anytime soon. Dawson could fight the other belt holders such as Gambriel Campillo (WBA champion) or Juergen Braehmer (WBO champion), but I highly doubt that will happen. I think Dawson should fight Hopkins and then Cloud once he beats his mandatory (winner of Johnson/Mack fight).
Very limited division...best fight right for him is Pascal or Hopkins...that is IF Hopkins would fight Dawson
I seriously doubt Pascal will recover by June, I think Pascal won't be fighting again until maybe September. I even heard from Canadian sources that he will be out for the whole year. Hopkins just backed out of his fight with Green. Dawson vs Hopkins is the fight the fans want to see, and Dawson has a HBO date in April. I would rather see Dawson fight someone younger such as Tavoris Cloud, but the IBF is preventing that from happening.
Pascal will likely unify with Cloud (IBF) around June and the WBC will accept to postpone the mandatory (Dawson) for this unification. bookmark it
Hopkins, if B-Hop wants it, is the obvious choice. After that a fight with Cloud, provided he defends his belt, or Pascal, would be very appetising.
Agreed! Dawson has next to no charisma and struggles to fill the stadiums he fights in (even though the tickets are very cheap). Very good fighter with suspect chin that lacks star quality to become a big name in the sport.
every division needs to set about making unifications the way the light welters seem to be doing so fight either cloud, campillo or hopkins. failing that, go back to 168- Pavlik, Bute, super 6 winner/guy that comes out best
