p4p where does Marciano rank in your atg list

    I have him top20 which i know is higher than the esb average.

    After some quick research here is a little bit of info i got off the interwebs.

    In 2002, Ring Magazine numbered Marciano at #12 on the list of

    In 2007, on ESPN.com's list of the 50 Greatest Boxers of All Time, Marciano was ranked #14.

    Bert Sugar also ranked him #14 in his book "Boxing's greatest fighters"

    The IBRO (International Boxing Research Organization) published a listing of the greatest boxers of all time in IBRO Journal # 91 Sept, 27 2006. The IBRO is an esteemed group of analysts who are well researched in the history of boxing. The IBRO membership had 30 historians participating in the poll. Votes were on a points based system. They ranked Marciano #23

    If I had a list I'd be taking resume, longevity, and skill set into equation...Marciano would be on the cuff of a top 100.

    You could argue a top 50 ranking. It took me a good while to really appreciate Marciano as well, Addie. Once you do you'll realise the absurdity of having him borderline top 100.

    Why? He's ugly to watch, dominated a **** poor division? Often got outboxed, but had the equalizer to cancel out his limitations.

    As I stated earlier. You're sounding as ignorant to me right now as I used to sound when I spouted the same **** to the older members of the forum when I first joined. Trust me on this one. There are fighters that take a while to get the hang of, Marciano is one of them. In regards to not only his overall ability (which is about a lot more than just textbook technique), but his opposition and his outstanding achievement.

    Nobody. That in itself is a fine indicator of his pound for pound status. So much so that I'm feeling guilty for not placing him in the 41-50 bracket.

    Tunney and Dempsey both have an excellent chance but that's about it. You could certianly make the case for his being the very best fighter head to head outside the modern HW limit.

    In beating Moore, Walcott and Charles he's already beaten three of the very best in history from around his weight.

    Jones Jr, Spinks, Prime Moore, Prime Charles, Joes Louis, 195lb Clay, Holyfield, Toney, Tunney, Jack Johnson, Dempsey, Qawi, Greb, Langford, Haye, Prime Walcott, Patterson

    I wouldnt pick all of those over him but all have good shots and a good few would and thats all I can think of right now

    1 problem with Marciano he was at the top level for what? 4years? That leaves a few question marks

    Since he only just makes my top 10 at Heavy weight, not very highly, maybe in the 50 to 60 range?

    Didn't Joe Louis weigh about 190? The earlier version anyway. Or was he about 195? In fact, what do you guys think the outcome would be between The Rock and prime Louis?

    I think Louis takes it personally.

    Anyway, I'd have Marciano between 70-80. Top 20 is ludicrous, I bet Philla had Linares in his top 100 :lol:

    Louis had had fifteen fights the last time he made it in under 195; Rocky would crush him, and any other green fighter that got in with him including the supers.

    Picking Jones is a bad joke, basically. If a pressure fighter like Glen Johnson can KO the past-prime version, what do you think Rocky will do with him?

    Walcott's best performance for which we have an entire film is Marciano I.

    Love the James Toney pick, if your delusion starts to slip i'll certainly notice!

    I will give you Jack Johnson as an interesting one and I think Greb has a great chance over a short distance, but this good work is negated by your picking Haye to beat him. The last time Haye made 195 will be for Carl Thompson I'd wager, and he got knocked the **** out.

    I suppose now you are going to tell me Carl Thompson would beat him.
